Black screen when hitting 'New Game'
Can't play =/ NVIDIA 4070, reasonable rig. Any debug info I can send somewhere?

I get a very quick flash of the word Loading, but then that's it.

Regarding my NVIDIA control panel settings, I can confirm they work perfectly fine with all other games. For instance, cinematic sequences run flawlessly on titles like Silent Hill 2 with the exact same NVIDIA configuration.

At the moment, I’ve reached out to the technical support team at 2.21 via email. They are assisting me by requesting specific details, such as the `Player.log` file, to pinpoint the root of the issue.

For my current NVIDIA control panel settings:
- I’ve set V-Sync to “Fast.”
- The maximum frame rate is capped at 237 FPS, which is 3 FPS below my monitor’s refresh rate of 240Hz.
- Antialiasing is configured as “Application-controlled.”

However, I personally don’t believe the NVIDIA control panel is causing this issue. This is because, when faced with the black screen during cinematics, pressing ESC button lets me skip straight into the gameplay, which runs perfectly fine.

For now, I’ll wait for the support team’s response. Depending on their advice, I might experiment with tweaking some settings in the NVIDIA control panel.

I'll give more updates if my situation changes.

Thanks again for your help and suggestions: it’s much appreciated :)

Well, Silent Hill 2 runs on the UE5 engine and this game runs on a different one. I imagine there are considerable peculiarities in each case, and perhaps certain settings in the control panel might not be adequate for both titles. Messing up with your global configuration is not necessary to make some tests, though. The control panel allows you to apply a batch of customized options that will be enforced solely to run Twinsen's Quest. I would start by setting V-Sync to "application-controlled" or "disabled" and by drastically reducing that maximum framerate number. You don't need 237 frames per second to play Twinsen, anyway. If neither of these changes work, try disabling or toning down the more sophisticated features, and that goes beyond antialiasing.

If I can run this with my horse carriage, it would be ridiculous if you could not run it with your Porsche as well. Most folks do not seem to be facing the same issue, either. This has got to be something related to your card's graphics profile.

Yes, I’m aware that Nvidia Control Panel parameters can be both global and customized for individual applications :)
By the way: Thanks a lot for your advice, I managed to fix the issue by changing the game’s V-Sync setting in my Nvidia Control Panel from "Fast" to "Application-Controlled."

Thanks again, and I hope this post will help others who might face the same problem!

Have you tried updating your card's drivers? Does your PC have a second integraded card? If so, have you set Windows to run the game with your nVidia card? Maybe the game's files got corrupted somehow, so try to reinstall it. When I ran the game for the first time recently, it took a while for it to finally start because Steam had to install some runtime library stuff before booting it up. At least it worked after clicking on New Game, though. Maybe that's the culprit in your case.

same here, I'm on a RTX 4080 laptop, QHD resolution (2560 x 1440) .
You can only play the game by pressing ESC: intro and other cinematics won't play.

Here's another topic about this issue: https://steamcommunity.com/app/2318070/discussions/0/7074686544135635004/?tscn=1732468684

I'm pretty sure they're working on a patch. Until then, I'm not touching the game.

Cinematics still not playing after today's patch. Changing cinematics' resolution from graphics menu doesn't do anything. I still get a black screen after pressing "new game" like OP said. Only way to get into the game is by pressing "ESC" on keyboard.
I've also tried to re-install the game: not working.

Are you going to do something, please?😅 I would just like to play the game, I really don't want to proceed with a refund after pre-ordering the game weeks before, being unable to play it and waiting almost a month for an update which doesn't fix anything.

Played just now at 1080p fullscreen with the game's native V-Sync setting enabled and everything worked fine, and my computer is vastly inferior compared to yours. Maybe it has something to do with your card's settings. Are you enforcing V-Sync on all games via your nVidia control panel? Have you tried running the game on windowed mode? Have you tried changing your resolution? Perhaps there's some configuration on your card's control panel that's causing this. DSR, anisotropic filtering, multi-frame sampled AA, ambient occlusion, a framerate cap? I ran the game with these things either "off" or "controlled by the application". I also have a framerate cap set at 58 FPS.

Black Window when hitting "Start" inside Steam, nothing happens, no sound, no introvideo or something else, only a scalable black window, mousecontrol works, can close normaly the window or kill the game prozess in task manager

First Game in Steam which don't work !

My Hardware:
X470 Aorus Ultra Gaming Mainboard 32GB Ram
AMD Ryzen 7 2700x (8 core)
Nvidia Geforce RTX 2070 8GB Ram
Some internal HDD and SSD

Windows 10 Pro V22H2
Internet with static ip4 500MBit/s Down 50MBits/s Up
all drivers uptodate

What have i tried:
- Verify Game files
- Game *.exe Adminstart
- Komp.Mode for Gameexe with Winvista, Win7, Win8
- push Installation inside Steam from SSD to HDD
- Remove O&O Shutup++ for WIN10/WIN11 ( free antispy tool )
- disable temporarly Pihole ( network wide Tracking- and Spamblocker)
- v-sync: all what is possible. Both global and gamespezific
- reduce screen resolution to 1920x1080
- pressing ESC when black window appear has no effect
- slow down or disable all in the Nvidia Control Panel for this game

No more ideas, what can i do. Demo won't play also on this machine.

My Gaming Notebook with WIN 11 have no Problems with this Game. Also Demo plays

Sry for my english, i live in germany

You seem to be experiencing a problem that is similar to what Kleshar faced days ago. It's important to understand this: you should not apply two V-Sync technologies at the same time while playing this remake. Do not enable any V-Sync solution provided by nVidia. Not "fast", or "half" or whatever. Disable it completely, and activate the game's native V-Sync setting instead. Moreover, do enforce an FPS cap of 60 on the game. You can do so in your card's control panel.

As for the other settings in the nVidia control panel, you can set everything as "application controlled".

Hello ErrantBlimp,
thx for your statement. having the same ideas like you, i tried out at last all possible configs inside nvidia app for my rtx 2070.
finally i can say, there is no solution on my pc. i mean, this is a lokal problem only on my pc.
there must be an intolerance with my win10 !
last hour i upgraded my system to win11 and bingo - twinsens quest start inside steam without specific tuning.
have a nice day and thank you
Well, I'm glad you managed to get it working properly, but the developers must find out what's causing this issue and fix it in a second patch. This kind of problem can turn people away from the game and hurt its reception, with good reason.
