Sterling is the best game industry critic there is.
And although her game reviews are controversial, they always come with some valid criticism.
I think what is worse is not that the game was released buggy, but the fact that there was little support after launch. I've seen smaller teams release much more fix after launch too much less buggy games.

If I understand correctly, Sterling played the game and formed their opinions before the first patch was released. While I agree that things were problematic at the beginning, some corrections have been implemented. I believe that we can help the developers create another patch by reporting the issues that are still lingering. There was a thread in french recently which contained a lot of feedback for them. We should wait until they return from their holiday break.

I literally replay the game yearly (it's comfy nostalgia food and just overall great games... EXCEPT the jumping, dear lord).
I'm pretty damn sure I can compare them.
I absolutely see the flaws in the originals, some infuriating (LIKE THE "!#!% JUMPING).
That does not make me have nostalgia-glasses on. The originals simply are... better.

And again, I play a lot of ♥♥♥♥. Hell, I love Phantasmagoria 1. LOVE IT. And I KNOW it's not really that good. Not even close, really.
But I'm not going to fanboy about it and claim it's a masterpiece, despite my love for it.

"The originals are better". First of all, there is no point in talking about the second game now. No remake of LBA2 has been released so far, so there's nothing to compare it to. It's senseless to draw conclusions about this remake by comparing it to the 1997 game.

Now, why is the original LBA better? Just because you say so? You've acknowledged that it does have multiple flaws, but you still consider it a great game. Let me retort by giving you my view about it. It's not a great game. Never has been, not even back then. By today's standards, it has aged poorly in terms of graphics, gameplay mechanics, controls and overall presentation. This remake managed to address some of the design decisions that made the original a clunky, ugly chore to play.

"I'm not going to fanboy about it and claim it's a masterpiece". I've never said this remake is a masterpiece. Hell, I've never said it is a great game -- not yet, anyway. That becomes obvious when you compare it to other products in the market. However, I am able to see that it does have value and potential. You, on the other hand, are hellbent on coming here to lambast the game, given that this isn't the first thread you created to publicize your very particular displeasure. I'm assuming that can be explained by your curious personal predilections?

Regardless, the fact that you really hate this remake doesn't make it necessarily a bad title. It does have flaws, it does need more polishing, but it succeeded in fixing a lot of wonky stuff and breathing new life into the franchise. And, yes, that includes presenting a more colorful, perhaps more cartoonish, art style.

Proving that any particular form of art sucks is never a simple endeavor. I'm sorry, but I'm not buying your little trick here. You can't judge the whole game by picking a small segment of an image and isolating it from the rest of its scenery. Things must be analysed when they are inserted in their respective contexts. Both pictures you provided are quite small, and frankly, the second one is not marvelous.

I buy and finish the game on GOG. I dont need youtubers and other thing to claim this game art is objetively ugly.
I am a teacher at the university of art and design and I have more than 35 years of experience apart from being a teacher in creating digital design content.

I don't like this remake at all, but deferring to Jim Sterling of all ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ people is laughable (and also a fallacy for that matter). They're the left-wing equivalent of all those alt-right grifters that peddle nothing but misery.
