the cake problem

In some languages you differ between two different forms of cakes like in French "le gâteau" and "la tarte", but both appear as Kuchen in German. So when you are asked about Kuchen, its a roulette whether you get it right or wrong. And besides, la tarte and gâteau arent similar things and not both regarded as Kuchen
le gâteau der Kuchen (in its classical sense)
la tarte die Torte (a richly topped cake especially for festive occasions)
At least it would help to guess the words correctly. I think this misstake appear more often as long as you have two words in one language but only Kuchen in German
