For now, even though you can, it's recommended to use another sourceport for AD. Nighdive stated that vanilla Quake mods should run no problem, but AD is one of those who employs some limit-removing capabilities of other source ports, so as it's already been said some maps will be prone to issues or could not launch at all.

you can technically do that but there are a lot of compatbility issues that even prevent some levels from loading at all

yeah, put the ad folder in rerelease folder, go into the game and load up the console and type game ad.

Oh thank you, I didn't know you could do that. I'm fresh with Quake, I know a little (like 3% or less) about modding / adding something to the game.

I could bet, that this will be included one day as one of the new official addons through the main menu.

It would be a hard nut to crack ;)

Maybe in a while they'll figure something out for those mods too! I personally can't wait if they do, so that I can conveniently play any Quake content I want directly from Steam. But if they don't... well, source ports are still there. Quake SPs, if you're new, are not as ultra-intuitive as, say, gzdoom, but they're still quite simple to use once you learn a few things. So pick your poison! You'll have a lot of fun with AD regardless.

I've never played AD, I don't know much about source ports, so I asked this question in the discussion section.
(please don't be mad at me)

It's absolutely not a problem. To use, say, Quakespasm in order to play AD, you should download those and unzip them in the Quake directory. Then, you launch Quakespasm and type "game ad" in the console (you can bring up the console by pressing \ ). Then you'll be good to go!

(I'm not super literate on Quake source ports myself, but this is the way I play mods and it works!)

Thanks for the hints, everyone helped me here. I am really grateful for that. I'm going to have a look at QS and I'll play AD.

The Spiked version of QS and plain vkquake are better, IMO.

Kinda sad that Arcane Dimensions will never become an official Add-on for the Quake Remastered just like Honey, Quake 64 or Dimensions of the Past did just because Arcane Dimensions uses a lot of stolen assets from other games like models, textures and sounds. Not to mention that a lot of secrets (and part of the level design as well) are only possible to get by shooting upwards at 90° angles, which is only possible to do in a few Source ports, and sadly that list of source ports doesn't include the original release of Quake nor the official Remaster. My hope is that one day they could decide to revamp the whole campaign to replace all the stolen assets with new original ones, and to overhaul some of the level design to avoid requiring you to look at 90° angles so that one day they could add it officially into the game so that more people can experience it, including the thousand of console players that I always encounter when playing cross-play online in the remaster.

I very much hope for this myself. Somebody needs to get this made as an add-on, this would literally be the only way to sweeten the pot even further and continue to draw new players. Just finished her on Nightmare mode for the first time since doing so over 28 years ago, and after a lifetime of shooters can say that it still tested my skill, patience and savvy quite pleasantly. After all these years, the first true 3D shooter ever made is still the best shooter ever made.

Yeah, and as much much as I love Arcane Dimensions, sadly I doubt Arcane Dimensions will ever become an official addon any time soon, just because of the sheer amount of stolen content it has. As it ranges from textures and sounds, to entire models, enemies and even code. The only way for it to ever become official would be if it got a MASSIVE overhaul to replace all the textures of entire levels as most levels are composed of only stolen textures. Then you would have to replace all the stolen models with new ones, redesign entire enemies that are from other games, and ask permission to use the stolen code to all the people that originaly wrote them. All of that is honestly a lot of work that is virtually impossible to do unless he gets a LOT of help, as again, most levels are made with stolen assets. And not to mention that a few levels will have to be simplified a little as Arcane Dimensions was designed for Source Ports like Quakespasm that disables the polycount & map size limit that the original Quake had and that sadly this remaster also has (in case you were wondering why if you play Arcane Dimensions through the remaster, certain levels will make the game crash upon starting).

the sheer amount of stolen content it has
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
When I said that most won't lose any sleep over something like this, the love for this project here, supports my view. Nobody is worried about plagiarism, and play it anyway. The reason you may never see something large or complex as an addon to the remaster, is because it's weak, as far as packet handling goes. It may be the weakest aftermarket engine of all time in this area. I never heard of automatic patents, when it comes to texture creation. In my new map, the only textures I used that are not native to Quake 1, are skip textures. I'm safe here, because you cannot see them. So NOBODY will ever know they are there. What a relief!
