make no mistake, this remaster was made first an foremost for console peasants. you can see this clearly with the inclusion of a "weapon wheel" instead of being able to bind weapons to specific keys in the menu.

i will enjoy this as long as it lasts because the "remake" will be a nudoom QTE controller shooter and if we are very unlucky with the autistic gunplay from eternal.
I didn't see one? used numbers to select weapons or scroll wheel

press and hold "Q"

Yes. its made multiplayer 10 times easier, it looks better and quality of life improvements

Not remastered enough. Source ports have better graphics, and you can download mods for higher quality music and sound effects.

Needed one? Nope
I like it? Kinda. I think ill stay with the sourceports.

The remaster is cool if you want to play with friends tho. Much easier.

Controls feel off. Not sure if it's the mouse, or keyboard, or both.

So this includes OG Quake as well?
Can you bind keys in this remaster version like OG Quake?
Does GOG Quake version have original or has not been updated as of today 8/19/2021?

Crossplay multiplayer is pretty rad, the addition of achievements is nice, and overall it's more accessible to people who can't be bothered to read guides and learn console commands.

We all know source-ports and mods are where it's at, but I think the changes are good and the option to play the new version or our custom "old" version is excellent.

Do you mean coop or deathmatch? Though there are different sourceports that are much better for each (QuakeSpasm-Spike for coop and EZQuake/Nquake for deathmatch).

Or you mean finally play with console-only friends? :D

It's only needed for people who couldn't figure out how to extract the id1 folder and load it with a source port and copy the music files over.

I'm sure the new expansion is decent and playing the 64 version is worth it, but everything else is pointless.

Honestly if they get this port up to the quality of others, like how they did with Doom's then it'll pretty good. (kind of like how "Unity" Doom is about as good as PrBoom/Crispy Doom) Right now I just wish performance were smoother and that there are more granular options, such as finer sensitivity adjustment and custom weapon binds.

Why would you want to? Trying to play Quake with a controller is blasphemy.

No.

Source ports were all that was needed. This "improved remaster" by Nightdive studios is a total embarassment. Reminds me of that one 'If Quake was made today' video.

You still get the old Steam version included. So both sides should be happy.

Though I will say if you want the best version, grab the one over on GOG.

why? just curious.

So while neither GOG or Steam are going to be as good as having an original physical copy, GOG does at least go a step further including the original DOS version which also has the original music. So for those purists looking for a more authentic original version, GOG has you covered.

I don't know if the GOG version has the remaster yet though.
