Dev Question // Weapons
Hello explorers!
Many thanks to everyone who responded to our previous post. You knew this question was inevitably going to arrive, so let’s get to it…

Weapons
  • What kind of weapons would you like to see in ITR2 and why? And by that we mean gun types and specific models, no other fancy stuff!

Please keep in mind these questions are to generate discussions and ideas. They aren’t a guarantee of anything to come or go, change or remain as is.

Try to describe in detail your thoughts on this subject. Thank you, and have a beautiful day in the Radius :)

maybe some German assault rifles from the 1960s or 70s like the HK33 or the G11? Kinda cool looking and still uses fairly standard 5.45 x 45 ammo (for the HK33 at least). The G11 would be a bit of a stretch since it had caseless ammo but would be fun because of its unusual design that would fit well in I2TR.

It might also be fun to see the return of a bayonet-capable weapon.

Also it would be really nice if at least one of the SMG's with folding stocks could be used as a sidearm, at least at a certain security level or with some sort of upgrade-able holster.
A older style Colt 1911 would be pretty cool.

Remington nylon 66 22LR. I like 22s and wish they were in the first game as an inexpensive low level weapon. My dad passed his down to me and its a very reliable and accurate little varmint gun. It also has an interesting feature where it loads from the back (14+1 round) which would make it a unique and fun gun in VR.

Just a small question, but why aren't you keep all the originals firemarms of ITR1 (as I can see, with only texture mods the firearms can look really better, and they are already perfectly modeled, so...) and maybe adding wome specific weapons like the P90, the 1911 and bullpups like the Travor or even the Famas? I'll really love to see "exclusive" fireams that can only be found in some mission, and specific location (as a reward of a mission, for exemple), like a triple-barrel hunting rifle (let's say we found it in a mission, when searching a specific hunting location), and, maybe have a roll in the exclusives guns : if I start a game two times, the exclusives will be different. Or maybe just not the exclusives.

Maybe not strictly guns, but relative to : if you can put tape in the game to differenciate the magazines and the ammo loaded. For instance, red for AP, blue for FMJ, ...

The FN Minimi/M249 would be an interesting choice. Belt-fed from 100-200 round pouches with the option of standard M16 magazines (likely with a reliability decrease, as I've heard anecdotally from some US Army members that it jams very frequently when using the magazine). The weapon (and other belt-feds) would be a good tradeoff given that the belts can't fit in a magazine pouch and must be reloaded from the backpack, coupled with the high weight of the weapon and its ammunition to offset its prodigious firepower.

In co-op it would open up more tactical options for a squad if they can get an LMG in overwatch position while the lighter (faster?) teammates can flush enemies out.

Lastly, artifacts might be a great option for weapon attachments. We had a lot of artifacts in ITR that didn't have a use, but maybe they were just in the wrong place? Maybe some could reduce recoil, or reduce the weight of the weapon (at the cost of some recoil), or increase muzzle velocity so lighter rounds can have increase armor penetration. Bigger guns like LMGs allow for more variety that wouldn't make sense on lighter weapons (i.e. why reduce the weight on a pistol when its only got limited rail space for an artifact container?).

2nd post to keep the ideas separate: More 7.62x25 weapons! The OTs-27 had a variant with 18-rounds of 7.62x25mm, and the PP-19 had a variant that fed from 35-round box magazines instead of its iconic helical mags. This would give us some tier-3 weapons that can last into the late game, unlike the Tokarev or PPSh that we had to ditch early even though they were a ton of fun.

Additionally, and you can really play around with the fictional aspect here, but caliber switching firearms via the modification cabinet. Maybe the Committee has managed to convert an OTs-33 to alternative pistol calibers, or commit the blaspheme of converting an M4 to fire 5.45mm or even 7.62x25mm ammunition. This would be a great way to bump the firepower of lower-tier weapons, or reduce the high ammo cost (and power) of higher-tier weapons depending on the situation. And for those of us who like collecting guns, its a good way to expand the firearms list without having to remake too many art assets.

Degtyaryov machine gun maybe or an m1 garand cus PING.(<- friends thoughts) I think an ASG Steyr Scout or a Kriss Vector with a drum mag option (like the ppsh where you have to FIND the drum)
pp-19 bizon would be a fun modern alternative to the ppsh.

the PM-63 is an interesting machine pistol, especially since it fires from open bolt, it would provide unique animations with the large moving slide.

I'd said this elsewhere, but: I'd love to see you guys dig through the trove of bizarre Soviet experimental weapons from the 60s and 70s. There's some wild toys in there (like the Korobov TKB-059 three-barrelled salvo rifle, the over-engineered Gerasimenko VAG-73 autopistol, or the wacky orange plastic Korobov TKB-022PM) that are begging to be found in a rusty container. The radius is weird, the weapons can be too!

An array of heavy machine guns like the M249 or RPK would be a cool addition to the game. If the BTR from the first game is gonna make a return, some heavy weapons like a RPG or explosive/armor piercing weapons would be an amazing addition to combat because of the rarity of such weapons and their ammunition.

I liked the DVL-10 alot, my opinion that some similar rifle with an integrated silencer (or silencer barrel swap available) should exist.

unrelated: Also, I would like to see proximity voice chat for player-player communication. I tried lethal company in VR and using the walkie talkie in VR was a cool experience that would go well with the sometimes hectic situations you can find yourself in with ITR1 / 2.

Classic M1911A1 is a must have in my opinion.

I believe German weaponry like the MP40 and the Mauser and other guns of Germany would be kind of cool, sorta gives a hint that several countries are interested in the radius phenomenon.
