Does nothing? Hellooo...
Heat + Toxin = Gas lol
More Heat or more Toxin = more Gas
In what way Toxin is better at boosting Gas damage than Heat?
They both combine in the same way. Heat and Corrosive is really good duo on weapons like this. Not saying Toxin is bad either if you want to go pure Corrosive or Viral route (Tho one would argue that after Heat changes to its procs and adding armor reduction Viral + Heat is pretty deadly combo aswell especially when paired with Slash procs from Hunter Munitions.)
but saying that innate Heat doesn't add up to Gas dmg is just beyond silly for someone with 11k hrs.

Heat alone won't work as well cause you'd get Gas and that only works well with big crowds, otherwise pretty meh.
So take heat, build for VIral and you should be fine.
Oh ..oh my. Then sorry my bad i always thought that the Gas proc despite being "Toxin" its power was scaling of raw Gas Damage not just the power of Toxin mod/innate effect itself.
Don't worry, absolutely nowhere in the game itself is that particular interaction alluded to or described.
Worth noting/reiterating that the Fire portion of the Gas elemental combo will still boost the damage of your weapon and the initial Gas damage hit itself, but will NOT do anything for the resultant cloud proc effect.
On top of all this is the way that the "Bane of <faction>" mods and their equivalents for other weapon types interact with Damage Over Time procs like Gas, Toxin, Slash, etc. due to how those are calculated for your damage - Gas and Slash procs become CRAZY strong.

And in case this is new knowledge for you: Both Toxin and Gas status eventually end up proccing a Toxin Damage/Toxin DoT, whether directly or via gas cloud.
Which, btw, means that Heat mods does NOT increase the resultant Toxin DoT from a Gas proc. A better way to think about it is: Gas proc is a status that CREATES Toxin procs. It's a proxy-proc. A transition stage? Gas DAMAGE only exists as a one-hit-wonder; there is no Gas DoT. Just a cloud of proxy procs.
