No. He is trash.

a very good crowd control warframe. I only use tentacle swarm if I need to kill easy enemies in a bunch, but for the rest I use tempest barrage and tidal surge to group all enemies.
puddle when I need to go afk for a moment such as picking the phone or toilet priorities

Puddle eats groups of enemies, Corroding Barrage is best augment, and Tentacle Swarm can be a panic button so long as Nullifiers don't exist.

He is good at wasting energy to do nothing

He has some CC potential with his 1 and 4. His 1 with an augment also allows you to strip armor from enemies which is really good when u play against high level grineer/corrupted.

His 2 and 3 are useful if you want to gather enemies in 1 spot. His 3 is a nice way to avoid incoming damage and regen some shileds or trap enemies inside dealing dmg over time. Your team mates also can shot the puddle to increase the dmg u deal to enemies inside. And there is an augment which heals your team mates when they are on your puddle.

So, a smart player will find Hydroid useful in some situations. Others can light-mindedly
call it trash.

A smart player would use a better frame :Helen_wink2:

Yeah, it's just a lootoid. You *can* be a puddle and eventually kill enemies up at any level, but downside is you'll be a puddle and it takes ages to kill anything.

Tentacles can be used for cc, but tentacle cc is incredibly annoying, and still crappy compared to most other cc.

Puddleguy *can* get the job done, to some extent, if for some reason you absolutely refuse to use actually good frames.

I like Hydroid. :sohandsome:

Hydroid excels at locking down an area. And reducing enemys to nothing with his Corrosive Barrage and Puddle. Tentacles provide CC, some damage and Loot.
His 2 is decent moblity, CC and able to group enemys into a wall to then be melee'd.

He is best used for Interception and Farming. Can be used for other stuff if you're smart, but other frame may be a better choice.

Not really no, he’s still just the same as he was before his rework.

No no hes different instead of tentacle based hes now puddle based.
Never used his Puddle before... for me its his rain and wave. The rain is great CC with a good range to it, and i use his wave to gather up enemies into a ball against a wall so i can Lenz or some other aoe weapon kill em. You have to position yourself well for that but nothing like taking 10+ enemies along with you about 60 meters up to a wall rag dolled then boom dead.

Been playing him alot the last few months and compared to how i used to think about him hes one of my new favs.

unfortunatly the zenurik removal will seriously hamper my Hydroid fun since for me like all my warframes he was a power spammer, id cover the map with rain and wave clear hordes of minions nonstop... which will be impossible soon :( damn it DE why are you making this change!

And as i always say... 99% of a frames effectivness is the weapon you bring with it. Love the people who straight up call frames useless or trash, gives me a chuckle everytime.

Honestly his 1 is like his best ability imo its the one i see myself using the most. It's sad that most people think his 4 is his only usefull ability and its my least used out of his abilities cuz the damage is kinda just mehhh. Never used zenurik and right now i think is probably not the best time to get into it lol.

I've played Hydroid a fair bit since I got him. Mostly because I just have a fondness for water based powers in games. I find him to be one of the easier frames to survive with.

  • His 1 - a rain of water bombs - is the most straightforward offensive ability he holds. I don't often use it unless I see a crowd to soften. Think of it like artillery to bomb a wide area. It can corrode enemies if augmented.

  • His 2 - which turns him into a wave of water and rushes him forward - is great if you're trying to go through anything clogged full of enemies or slip through lasers without setting them off.

  • His 3 - turning into a puddle - makes him completely invunerable to damage. Yet he can choke and grab enemies from a distance. With an augment it gives him his health back in this form - as well as any allies standing on top of him. In puddle form he can still use his other abilities. This ability makes him pretty decent at survivability I think. Anytime you're about to kick it you can just puddle and pop back up a few seconds later at full health - or stay a puddle and drown the threats.

  • His 4 - summoning a horde of water tentacles from teh floor and walls - gives him a good crowd control. He can effectively close off an entry way with tentacles for a decent amount of time. And - if augmented - it garuntees extra drops if the tentacles kill any enemies. They don't do a lot of damage at once though they do keep your enemies out of the fight even if they're alive.

tl;dr
He's not going to be everyone's cup of tea. A lot of people look at raw numbers for min-maxing and in that respect Hydroid doesn't shine too well. But his abilities aren't pure damage, or healing, or crowd control. He falls somewhere in the range of versatility rather than specialization. Whether you want to focus on min-maxing is up to you. If you enjoy Hydroid then just play him.

His 3 skills can CC 3 different areas and his 1 can strip armor with augment while 4 deals magnetic(initial) then finishing damage.

Pretty good. If you're just going to play "meta" frames then you wouldn't be playing most frames in the game.
