so let me get this stright
soo they offer the game on here. but! but! you have to have the abyssea addition from steam to be abkle to get this addition? my taking from the "Important Message" listed on the store page

soo you mean Squear offers us 3 ways to buy this and we cant even use one of them to by it?

I have the original disc that was sold when it was first released in Japan aswell as the one from the US with the Rise of zilart added with it Then i bought the 2008 addition for the other expashions back in 2007 and i cant by it on here >.> kinda retarded

Quiet frankly im not paying the 70-80 amazon wants for it and im not paying the 50-60 Squear wants on there site

As i stated ive played since the release date of this game and still do till this day one of the few that have played this long but every expashion up till this one has been 10$ and for 20$ you got them all

i know theres a few hundread that bought it on here but why even offer it on steam if we cant buy it unless we have an older version from here?

You can't purchase the other versions of FFXI on steam anymore... they only offer FFXI: Ultimate Collection Seekers Edition now which includes all the dlc for the game packaged at 40$ or if you own any previous versions you get a 25% discount.

my bad i miss read that lol

I'm kind of bummed I'd essentially be paying $40 to get the steam overlay for the game.

The only expansion I'm missing is the new one - so essentially I'd be paying for this, THEN paying again at a 25% to ALSO buy the new expansion? Not nice.

From what I remember, a code would come in each expansion box, installing new content, and also allowing you a one-time registration to play said new content.

It seems absurd to me that new players gain full access for the one-time $40, while existing players get shafted and still have to pay more. How's that for loyalty?

Maybe I'VE read it wrong as well, but it's a shame that their system doesn't allow for existing players to take advantage of a great thing here with steam. I've been questioning whether or not to re-activate and play again, once I saw this I was excited, once I read the fine print I was turned off.

:/

The new "Seekers of Adoulin" expansion as well as all the other expansions are packaged inside this version. If you've purchased any of the other versions of FFXI on steam you receive a 25% discount on this. Either way it comes with all the expansions....or you can always just seperately buy the "Seekers of Adoulin" expansion from Square or Amazon for about 30$

On a side note... :/ the steam overlay doesn't work with FFXI

Steam overlay not compatible? Eh, I could live with it tbh. I put GW2 in my library just for convenience, it's nice but not a dealbreaker.

As long as I can get the new content with this purchase, I'm pretty much in. I stopped playing at the launch of Wings, played a little bit of it but didn't really dive into that expansion. I pretty much played the mess out of the others (zilart, chains, toau), never got into the 'campaign's either.

I just built a new PC, and while FFXI isn't exactly a hardware pusher, it'll be nice to finally see the game 'as it's meant to be played'. (my old PC I played on was an old Dell laptop from college.... terrible).

Pretty interested. Probably going to do it with this info. Thanks!

If you already own the Steam abyssea version then you'd be paying the expansion price (30 dollars) anyway.

i think that was his point. In the past you got them for 10$ just for the 1 add-on and new players would pay 20$ for all of them now there charging 40$ for everyone new and old.

His point from what i take it is Old players dont get anything anymore like a small discount on the add-on. Squear doesnt care and just charges everyone same price

Which i agree its kinda messed up they act like there so hard up for money and screw the players couse of it

there are still 20,000-25,000 players on FF11 so times that by 12-16$ for the average players and there are a lot of ppl that dual box (i do myself) so thats another 12$ for a few hundered ppl that do dual box now add that all up thats how much a month they make off a 10+ year old game

Thats not including there other games that hey bring in a good deal each month aswell also not to leave out the millions they made on expansions they have sold for 11

like for example

back when CoP came out there was a good 80,000-90,000 players back then so times that again by 10-20$ depending on if new or old players thats what they made just from 1 of the expansions

ok now do the same for ToAu and WoTg just take off about 10,000-20,000 players then again tiomes it by 10-20$ x2 1 for each expasion

ok then they added the 3 mini add-ons which were 10$ each for everyone and was no disc for them ok now back then there ws still a good 50,000-60,000 players on the game so times that by 30 (10 for each expasion)

then once again do it for abyssea now granted this time the player base droped down to what 20,000-30,000 players but still times that again by 30 (again 10 for each one)

now add all of that up thats what they made from expasions alone on this game and only this game not including all there other games which they have a monthlky fee on another one of them and they have to act like there going bankrupt?

Honestly I don't really mind paying the $40 to gain access to the new content, what bugged me was that it wasn't initially clear that spending the $40 actually granted existing players the new content.

I just purchased and it is remote installing. Time will tell I suppose. I'll let you all know!

I just honestly want to know myself why this game doesn't show up in my "all games list". I can get over the fact it doesnt have steam overlay but, i'd atleast like players to know I have the game and have spent time on it :/

thats what my original post was about more or less it was hard to tell if we got everything (from how they worded it on steam)

get Xfire or some game recorder and link it to steam on your profile (i know it sucks to have to install another program but that records gametime videos and screenshots for every game on your PC not just the ones suported by this and that DRM) it suports every game that can be installed on a PC

if i recall it can even launch games lol but i dont use it for that just to record my played time and it totles your time for you at the bottom like myself i have 23,758 hours played since i first started useing Xfire

Yah thats a nice solution but, none of my friends actually use xfire anymore. Just doesn't make sense cuz older versions of FFXI showed up and recorded play time just fine on steam. Hopefully its just a bug they can patch

ah didnt know that lol

to record ffxi time played you can leave the ffxi config launcher running while you play. boot this up before you boot up pol or windower. Also, the expansion itself is 30 dollars, if you dont have prior expansions paying 10 dollars extra is a bargain really, that's realistically well over 100 dollars if bought each expansion and dlc at release.
Nagisa Apr 21, 2013 @ 2:09pm
for a new player sure its a nice price for them all but for an old player its not a nice price really not when every one has always cost 10$ each if bought only the 1 add-on this is the first time since the original game they have ever charged this.

and if you read the above post its kinda messed up they act like this considering they have made several millions off this game in the past 10+ years
