People with WINDOWS 10 PRO and problems launching FFXI
I'm putting this here just in case you check these usually very dead forums. I have had Windows 10 Pro installed since I bought a new PC last year and I'm an avid player of FFXI. Now, if you don't know the one easy trick you will have to do to get this game to play on Windows 10 Pro, that all people must do since Windows 8.1 and up... Is you need to search for "Turn Windows Features On or Off" > Put a check mark next to Legacy Components, and then expand it and put a check mark next to "DirectPlay".

A lot of us have known that for a while. It's becoming common knowledge to get this game to run with the newer OS.

Ok, BUT.. then I experienced a problem loading up FFXI at the beginning of March and other people were as well. This problem isn't as widespread beause it seems to only affect us with Windows 10 Pro as opposed to the consumer version. The problem behaves like the same thing when you do not have DirectPlay enabled. The PlayOnline viewer will boot, you'll get to the FFXI launch screen, and you click to "play"... and you get the white screen of failure.

However, there seems to be a fix. The problem comes from a driver update from your controller. So you're going to unplug any controller you have. In my case it was an Xbox One controller (which are amazing for Steam games) and you're going to try launching the game again.

It should load up immediately, and now we just need to figure out why exactly that solves the issue and how to correct this for us small group of people that are experiencing this issue.

If this helped you out, let me know!

I wish I had found this thread earlier. I fixed my issue in the same way and its good to know that someone else shared the info.

If you are having issues with crash on launching FFXI, unplug your controller.
