Currently, our orbit paths only handle objects orbiting a single parent, not a system of parent objects. We'd like to improve this at some point in the future, but we don't have a timeline for it yet. If you look at the trails, you should still see the planet has a stable orbit around the binary system.
Others may have different methods, but the way I would suggest creating a system like this is:
0. Pause the simulation
1. Adding the binary star system using the Binary Method in the Add Tool with Balance Momentum set to On
2. Create a barycenter for the binary system by holding down Shift, selecting both stars, and then expanding their properties and pressing "Create Barycenter"
3. Open the Add tool again to add your planet around the system, again using the Binary method with Balance Momentum set to On
This will not fix the displayed orbit problem. I'm still dreaming for a fix to that.
If you create a barycenter for the binary objects, you can select the barycenter to be the orbital parent each object which will show it's stable orbital parameters as well as a stable visual orbit.

I first asked support for help with this on April 29, 2016, at 08:57:02 AM.
I'm not trying to be passive aggressive. It's a lot to ask for; wanting a game to do something specific that it just can't do. I'm truly excited for this update to be released. (I don't have Steam, so I can't preview.)
Thank you very much.
