No more control on linux - mouse click does not work
Hello everyone,
I ve got this weird issue since recently. When I launch the sandbox it's just like my mouse does not function at all. I can see the cursor on the screen. It's just the game that does not respond to it.
I can bring the menu by hitting the escape key on the keyboard. But I can't even click on any button.
Everything seems to work fine it's just like the game decided to ignore my control.
I'm sorry I don't really know how to describe it.
If i hit spacebar the simulation paused etc ... it's only the mouse. I can't click on anything.

Is it only me?
Im running it on Ubuntu 16.04.

Hmm... that's really odd. We'll definitely test this again. Anyone else on Linux having a problem?

Do you know when it last worked? We did push a couple updates this past week.

Edit on 2017-12-25...

SOLUTION:
Pressing F11 twice (to toggle fullscreen -> windowed - > fullscreen) should make the mouse respond again.

i cant tell you for sure. There has been 2 updates since it was working. I was thinking the second update would fix the bug , so about a week ago something like this

I don't know what I can do for helping solving the bug. The controls with the keyboard works, with my xbox one gamepad as well ( i never used it before, so the button have an effect but the thumsticks do nothing).
I ve only used it with the mouse.
The cursor does appear like normally but has no effect at all.
I ve just update my distro thinking it would help, but it did not.
Is there any log i can send or anything i can do to help?

(sorry for my bad english , im french)

How bizarre, I'm sorry it's not working for you. Dave just checked this out and reported:
"Mouse is working just fine on Ubuntu 16.04 here...
Just applied the latest Ubuntu updates, the mouse is still fine."

(and your English is good, I'm sorry I don't know French)

You could send us your log file, and we'll take a look:

damn that s pretty much annoying... Maybe a detail , im running the gnome version of ubuntu.
Well then no universe sandbox until 18.04 for me then ...
I ll send the log anyway.
I realize it also sync with the moment i upgraded the nvidia driver version 384.59 from the ppa. I should probably test with other version of the drivers, but I m gonna be lazy on that :]
Thank you anyway :)

Looks like another user is having this problem:

You'll have to delete your config as it turns out. Go ahead and run:
$ rm -rf ~/.config/unity3d/Giant\ Army

Upon restoration, do not turn on fullscreen until more is known about the issue.

I updated today to Ubuntu 17.10 and I started to have this problem. I am using NVIDEA drivers 384.90 and I suspect this is related but if I downgrade the driver my mouse stops working in gnome shell.

Anyway, you don't have to delete all the settings folder, if you edit

~/.config/unity3d/Giant Army/Universe Sandbox ²/perfs

and change

<pref name="Screenmanager Is Fullscreen mode" type="int">1</pref>

to

<pref name="Screenmanager Is Fullscreen mode" type="int">0</pref>

it will work again but I have to do it every time before starting the game. Very annoying.

Sorry for the issue. From what we understand of this issue with some Linux users, this should be fixed in a newer version of Unity, the engine we use. We unfortunately were not able to test it enough to use it for our latest update released yesterday, but we're hoping to use it for our next update. Then hopefully this issue will be gone!

Thank you for your patience!

Yes, I also do have the feeling that this is not direct universe sandbox fault.

I did noticed that the same behaviour happened with City Skylines but only the first time I ran it, after (re)installing the NVIDIA drivers. Then I killed the game and after it always worked fine.

I also do have another computer with Ubuntu 17.10 and this problem doesn't happen with any game but this other computer does have a lower version of NVIDIA drivers (340 I think).

If there's any way I can help with this issue (maybe sending some logs) just let me know.

Thanks so much for your eagerness to help. As Jar mentioned, we're hopeful that this issue will be resolved when we upgrade to the newest version of Unity. We still have some kinks to work out, but we're aiming to put out a minor patch with the updated Unity engine in the very near future.

Once that is released, it would be really helpful to hear from you whether you are still having the Linux mouse issue. If you still have the issue, at that point, logs may be useful. We have a few internal Linux machines to test on, but I don't believe any of us have personally seen this issue (though others have reported it).

Thanks again!

Yes same problem here. Is there a beta branch we can use? Happy to test upgrades before released if you need more Linux testers.

I'm sorry you're having a problem. We believe that updating our engine to the latest version will fix the problem (but there are some graphics issues on our side to solve before we can upgrade, which is why we haven't done it yet).

If you don't make it full screen I believe it works? Or press F11 to toggle back to windowed mode. I think that might fix it too?

Hi
I have the same problem on Linux Mint 18.3 Cinnamon. On version Linux Mint 18.2 Mate everythings have run very well. Today I've downloaded update but still mouse clicking doesn't work.

Linux Mint 18.X is based on Ubuntu 16.04 packages

I'm getting this on ArchLinux 64-bit with an ATI card under XFCE window manager, so I think it is not related to particular graphics drivers (e.g. nvidia), linux distribution, nor window manager.
