Throwing materials at planets not working?
Hi. This may be a stupid question but it doesn't seem like throwing materials at planets work. Is this true or am I doing something wrong?

I go to the Materials tab. It brings up the small panel on the left bottom of the screen and the mouse changes into a crosshair. I click on the planet and nothing happens. I played around with settings, changing the size of the particle and increasing the speed. Still nothing.

Can someone please help?
Cheers.

EDIT: I am not in pause.

Yeah i have the same problem the matrials seem to go behind the planet even though im firing them directly at it!

Yeah. something weird is happening. I can sometimes see the particles but they are definitely not taking a path from the cursor to where it's aimed.

Thanks for the bug report. I'll look into it here, and see if I can reproduce the issue.
this glitch still exist in 2020 at the time of this writing and it is very reproducible cause i can reproduced it any time i want to use this feature

We've made major changes to this system in the last 5 years and this should work.

Try opening the sim 'Earth & Moon'
Select Tools > Material
The point at the Earth and click

That should launch water at the Earth causing major floods.

Does that work?

depends on the simulation velocity. if velocity is 1sec/1sec or not much above, then the stream of water reaches the planet ok - if the camera position is changed, its sometimes multi-streamed coming from dfifferent directions to the planet (it seems it somehow remembers where the camera was when the tool was first selected) so the spawn position is a bit random, but at least it hits the planet

at higher speed (more than a few days/sec ) which is needed to see how the water actually flows around the planet any new materials will miss the planet and go on escape trajectory instead or orbit the sun.

i think the issue is that the material is spawned at camera pos physically, - requiring the material to make it to the planet using orbital mechanics.

SUGGESTION: Make the material deposit work like a laser - instead of spawning it where the camera is, spawn it where the laser hits - thus the tool works at any sim rate
