Can you use this as a "random map generator"?
Heya folks.

I'm in the process of creating a fictional world from scratch for a tabletop roleplaying campaign. Usually, a flat map generator would work fine for these things, but since this world is a globe, not a disc, I would like the oppertunity to generate a globus, rather than a flat map.

I wonder if this program can generate such globes (continents, oceans and all)?

Thanks!

It is more about simulating larger scale things, such as gravity, and how objects interact with each other because of gravity, You can't generate a random world as of now. There is, however, a very large database of planets that all have different surfaces.

Thank you :). I'm mastering in Eclipse Phase (RPG tabletop) and I think this soft can be useful. Can you generate a random solar system, even without the surface details?

It's not possible to make randomly genertated systems. You can place random objects, planets, asteroids, moons, in orbit around a star. You will then have to change the orbital elements of each object after that. If you aren't worried about each object being identical you can use the rings tool to place random objects around the star instead, you will still have to edit the orbital elements afterward if you want something a bit more realistic.

an aside, if you have a lot of time, you can do like me, and just wait till things placed with the ring tool naturally collide and such, making a somewhat realistic and random star system.

the catch is that you need a lot of "planets" in the ring, and until they reduce themselves to a number that your system can handle the timeskip is going to be really low.
I'm currently building a software tabletop RPG tool to assist in random/dynamic planet-generating in 3D, using Unity. My software will be available on itch.io at first and will allow users to customize the planet's size, climate, atmosphere, land vs. water percentage, distribution of continents, continent size etc... as well as generate hexagonal or square (lat/lon) grids of custom sizes. :)
It won't be nearly as capable as Universe Sandbox 2, but my software is purpose-built for exactly the task the O.P. is asking about. With a focus on D&D/Pathfinder type tabletop games. :)

nice, is it free or paid?
Price is going to be pay-what-you want, minimum $1.00 USD.
Add "Haunted Window Games" to your itch.io followed developers list.

I will try your tool :).
Awesome, thanks for the interest, in the meantime I don't want to take away attention from Universe Sandbox 2. You should experiment with it some more, because it is useful for tabletop RPG planning in certain ways. :)
