A deal for those of us who have Legacy
How about a special deal for those of us who have Legacy to buy the regular US? I've never played Legacy. I was thinking maybe you'd offer the new version for cheaper for those of us with the old version. That never happened, so I'm throwing it out here as a suggestion.

It would be unusual for owners of a game to get a discount on its sequel. As a Legacy owner that did cross my mind though. However I saw that US(2) was discounted in the Steam sale so I decided to get it anyway since I wanted to try the VR (otherwise I woudn't've bothered).:CapitalDome:

"It would be unusual for owners of a game to get a discount on its sequel."

This sounds dubious. I have seen such deals in the past, and they did not appear to be unusual. In fact, you will find such deals all over Steam, although they are not usually branded as such.

It's an application, not a game, and hence not a sequel but an upgrade. Application upgrades are typically discounted to licensees of previous versions. And it was announced or implied early on that the new version would be free to purchasers of the original.

I understand that development was far larger and expensive than anticipated and made that plan unfeasible. But, it was incredibly misguided (and salt in the wound) to then drop the V2 and give it the exact same name as the original -- making it seem like this wasn't even a version upgrade, but an update. I only purchased it today because it was discounted as part of the Steam Summer Sale. But, I don't have a high opinion of the way this release is/was being handled.

Nice reply, and thank you for the info.

Yes, all the more reason for the discount.

Well if your into astrology at all, and say own a few telescopes, you will likely have a better comprehension of what this simulator is all about, a physics degree and or astrology degree would also help, but this program, simulation, what ever you want to call it, will literally never be finished.

In science, improving such modelling is an on going affair.

This program is used for many doco's for TV.

I will be saddened if they did no more updates, or if need be for the need of a more complex dynamic engine, a whole new game, simulation , program. Whatever your fancy.

For those that dont have any telescopes, if you get the chance, grab a Nexstar 8'' and slap a Starfinder GPS camera and explore your solar system, astrology has never been so easy, or cheap for what you get for that money.

This program is worth every cent it asks, just for the educational value.
Its not the failure of the program, that some people dont understand it or know how to use it all properly, but what you can simulate in this program is nothing short of astonishing.

Consider the days of DOS.........

What?

Also, I take it that the rest of your reply isn't closely related to the current discussion.

Well you were tossing around suggestions, so I just tossed my suggestions, or opinion on that suggestion, is all.

I dont think giving free copies of this away is needed.

Its a data base effectively, for many people in many parts of the world, so it should be updated as new knowledge is discovered about some of the objects, planetoids we find in space.

You cant expect updates for ever or long periods and expect everything for free.

Its simply not fair.

And if the game needs to move to another engine to become more complex in its simulation, and we see a Sandbox Universe 3, then so be it, and if we, the people, want to move to the more advanced, more accurate simulation and data base, then we the people need to pay for that.

Is that better explained now.

Everything I said relates to this topic in some way, even if the telescopes were not directly related to your suggestion, its just a suggestion your suggestion generated the idea to suggest, erm, lol, clear as mud yea hahaha.
The telescopes, consider the forum your on and what the purpose of this program was from the start.
Its all about education, learning and discovery.

Can I ask, do you own a telescope ?
Does the question offend you in some way ?
That was not the intention.
This is what I suggested, for you to peer into your sky, and see some of these things with photons from object to your eye.

Real physics professors in some Uni's use this program, well known astrology professors use this program for doco's, if you jump on utube and google for example, Wonderful People, a friendly Russian qualified Astrology dude and take a look at how he uses this program, and this is just to help educate people reading this.
I gain nothing, no profit.

Here is a better suggestion , every school in all of our countries should have a copy of this program, simulator for educational purposes.
It is so much easier to explain how a dynamic solar system works with this simulator, than any chalk board or white board.
They can never give the child the impression or comprehension of whats really happening that 2 minutes of watching it in this program can do.

That suggestion would generate heaps of funds for the devs, to take that a step further, you could ask, suggest, a system that grants a free copy of the new updated version of the game , program, simulator, if you promote it and can prove you have sold copies of it for them to your local schools..

This might seem silly or futile to you, but this is where grass roots education starts and hey, you want a free copy dont you, well maybe a suggestion that helps the devs earn and pay for the free copies you ask for would be a better direction to take, just saying.

No one said anything about getting free copies. That's where I stopped reading.

Ok sorry, a discount then, not much difference if it chews up all of their profit margin though....

And I guess when the devs see how open minded you are to negotiating that position, they will just ignore such suggestions.....Well played.....

But good luck trying to get the devs attention for a , ''discount'' when your just asking for them to give give give, with nothing really in return.....

But this is where I stop caring, because Im pretty sure you read all of that post, which had a suggestion of a different way of thinking about it, that benefits both parties, so fail on that insult there champ.

Good luck.

Education, costs....

Piddle, it's Astronomy, not Astrology. Astrology is the study of the horoscopes.

Also, as someone that has legacy as well and was actually like WTF when they saw the SAME game on the store AGAIN for 30 dollars when I already owned the legacy.

I chose to support the developers in their Early Access phase and what did i get? Something that just takes up space in my library of undownloaded games.

Seriously, it should be a given that the legacy owners are given some sort of segway into this blatant cash grab.

I'm going to go ahead and look into making a game called HALO. It's an awesome new game that is completely different than that other "legacy" "halo" game.

It will be 59.99 plus tax, and will include an in-game store where you can purchase custom weapon modifications and skins.

Yeah....this is a sound strategy.

Smh.

Since when does owning a previous title get you a discount? Do gta 4 owners get a discount for gta 5? Do the last of us owners get a discount for last of us 2? Do previous cod owners get a discount for the new cod? No? Then why arent you calling these games a cash grab but do call this game a cash crab? Your logic doesnt make sense and you expect that if you owned a previous title that you deserve a discount for a sequel/new title whatever but no you dont and there is no reason that you should as this is a new game with completely new engine. Also your HALO example is terrible as universe sandbox does not have any in-game store where you can purchase stuff so I dont even know why you said that example.

Fair enough, a difference of opinion then.
But I accept that.
Thats what makes us unique.
