Creating a solar system through debris?
I just picked this game up and I'm just tinkering around with creating suns, planets, etc. However, I always remembered seeing simulations on TV on how it's believed our solar system was formed. I was wondering if it's possible to create a sun and surround it with tons of material and allow the simulation to actually form planets on their own. I just picked this game up, so I'm still learning what this can do.

you can put lots of moons around a small star and see the results of it

This game cannot yet simulate early stellar evolution, there are plans to add in a new evolution model to include the early formation of stellar systems. The devs have stated that work on that has been pushed back to be released at later date, so it may yet be a ways away before we see anything resembling an accretion disk.
There are ways to make a series of rings around a star that would be disk shaped though the objects would non-attractive and never come together.

Thanks, I began to realize that when moons and rocky planets orbiting closely to a star would just break apart into fragments and never formed into a new body (though I got prematurely excited when I saw a mass of them form a close cluster.

You can select these fragments and click "Convert All Fragments To Full Bodies" to allow them to coalesce. The problem with doing is this that it generates a drop in simulation performance and the drop will be quite severe if there are many fragments.
