Map Editor Ideas and Suggestions
So there is a thing or two that I wish was in the N++ editor.

  • When testing, draw player movement
  • Quicker way to delete blocks (brushes? blocks? idk...)

So, with drawing player movement:

This feature essentially draws two lines, one on the ninja's head and one on the feet as the player moves around in the map. These lines will persist in editing until the map is tested again. This allows for better map creation, as mappers will be able to place things along a jump, and also create pixel perfect jumps. When I want to do this, I have to use quite a bit of trial and error.

Deleting blocks:

Having a faster way to delete a block should be easy to implement on keyboard, which is to simply use the delete or backspace key. The controller will be harder though. I want this feature, because sometimes I really need to delete one single block I misplaced without having to press four buttons to do it.

Anyway, that's it!

Press d to delete blocks, it's quite a lot easier!

You can place blocks like a cursor, and E and D will always be placing a full tile and erasing tiles, respectively.

That works for deleting tiles, but not so much for entities. Back in 1.4 all you had to do was mouse over what you wanted to delete, and then backspace+click and it was gone. I've only played with the editor once in N++, but I remember it being more involved than that.

It's nowhere near involved.
Hit space to make sure you're in entity mode, then F to move around entities. Hover over an entity and hit T to erase it, and hit F to go out of the moving entities mode.
