Kickstarter backer code not working?

"If you create a profile in the game and it asks you for a Kickstarter backer code, please use the following unique, personal code. You can select this code and then copy it. You can paste it by clicking the small green button in the game next to the input box."

Below which there's a code. It doesn't work?

It says it only works with the final version, might be that it will only be officially released in 2 and a half hours and the code won't work until then? Seen stranger things :)

I think they have server issues on their part. In game I can't connect to the global chat.

This is a big oversight on their part.. Why restrict the code application to profile creation? This is exactly the kind of situation they should have thought to avoid.
