How to upgrade a skill?!
Call me stupid but I've hit lvl5 now and still can't upgrade ANY skill to level2 while my henchman do have skills lvl3?
My main's a mage but I ended up setting skills to level1 I'd rather would have not chosen otherwise.
Theres simply no "+" to hit and no popup that would tell me any prerequisites or what not...

What am I doing wrong?

Upgrading to lvl 2 takes 2 skill points. 3 - 3 skill points. 4 - 4 skill points. Etc..

1 point for level 1, 2 points for level 2 etc, you need to be saving points.

I don't understand there isn't a simple tooltip on the + to remind this (requires 2 points, later requires 3 points, and so on)

Planning is key to this game, both in how you approach battle and spend skill points. Also some gear can help with leveling skills. I seldom raise crafting above 2 with points, tons or rings, neckpieces and other gear give points to crafting.

I don't mind planning, I mind missing information. Not everyone wants to study forums and fansites just to have a clue on core game mechanics. BUT ok, the game is great and it's anachronistic style was VERY brave to pull off. Like a modern day BG2. So i'm very forgiving :-)

I've seen numerous posts like this; people confused on how to increase their skill level. It was pointed out to Larian in the beta but they didn't get around to fixing it. I think a simple solution would be to just include a disabled (greyed-out) "+" button next to a skill that requires more points than the char currently has. The instinctive thing for the user would be to mouse over it and get a tooltip explaining they need more points. This shouldn't take very long to implement and would save a lot of headaches of the users.

Pretty good idea, when you have enough point the plus sign tell you how many it costs. A greyed out one would be nice.

Indeed a very simple solution. But it's OK, it's a very complex project and things like these are surely of a very low priority. Maybe they'll add cosmetic things later. Would open the game up to more people not willing to "study" a game first. Me included :-)

Read the manual? It's in there.
