You have to put the EXACT correct weight on each of the pressure plates.

****************************Spoilers ahead ****************************

If you're looking at the blue gates, the first pressure plate on the left takes 7.5 lbs. There's a barrel to the south marked "Heavy Barrel" that's exactly 7.5 lbs.

The first pressure plate on the right takes 1 lb.

I STILL can't figure out what the two back pressure plates take. It drove me so damn crazy I quit for a while.

One of them is a piece of chunk somewhere to be found and the other one is a Barrel full of water found behind a secret door which is opend by a switch in the northern upper part.

I don't remember exactly but i think i found it in one of the urns. I destroyed a lot of them indirectly with the mines.

This is the worst part of the game so far.

From the hell gates here it

Heavy barrel --------- 1lb item(i used a bow)

|
Fat looking vase near swtich---------- 2lb item

I hope this helps, they REALLY should NOT have made the switches CLICK even when it was wrong, of course they didn't SAY "CLICK" when they were wrong but this was pushing good taste.

fire whoever designed this Larian. Its the tritest, worst quest by far, and puzzles are without justification, its just total ineptness -- worst quest in an rpg for the past 10 years tbh

I agree, the quest can be quite frustrating.

There is a bucket of water in one of the upper right rooms (I think you activate a door via hidden button) that you can use for one of the switches.
Also try using a single book for one of the switches.

Barrel, large pot, a book and a bucket of water we used for ours

the weights are 1lb, 2lb, 5lb and 7.5lb. There are specific items in the room that work, but you can also pull stuff out of your inventory and stack it.

Most of the vases in the room are 5lb, so that one's easy. THe heavy barrel (located down the steps to the right off the barrier, use alt to find it) takes care of the 7.5 one.

I am completely stuck here. Got the 7.5, the 5 and the 1 lb plates to work just fine. But the plate that is supposed to be 2 lbs doesn't "click". I've used 2lbs and every increment of weight up to 8 lbs going by half pound steps and by .1 lb steps. Any one have any suggestions?

I placed a stack of two candles on the 2lbs switch. I'm glad that worked, since I tried everything else in the room.

Seriously, that puzzle needs one more hint to avoid frustrating guesswork.

I finally got it. I just had to exit the game and reload. Then put the 2 lb bucket and it worked. Frustrating as hell.
