CPU optimization problem?
I'm not an expert on CPUs, but does this look wrong to anyone else?

http://imgur.com/5DsGVTE

The first thread is maxed out during play, threads 2,4,6 and 8 are idle as much as they are active and 3,5 and 7 are averaging about 20-30%.

I'm seeing crazy stuttering, where the game hangs for a second and this behaviour wasn't as common before today's patch (I think).

4GB is usually enough for gaming, you won't run into issuse.

What most people don't understand is...

They see Windows Task Manager, they see 2GB of RAM being used on Desktop(W7 & later). They think "OH, I only have 2GB of RAM available!"

However. When you open the game, Windows releases the RAM it is using. So you'll have full access to your 4GB during gaming.

Even then - there are roughly 5 games available that use more than 2GB of actual ram during gameplay. Those that use more are often unoptimized, or using engine hacks to load effects it can't normally use(Cinematic Mof for HL2 is notable for using up to 4-5GB of RAM with all effects enabled, but that is because it is hacking stuff into the Engine.)

I have 8GB, it's safe and allows alot. 6GB is fine, and will be for awhile yet. Most games are 32bit and can't address more than 2GB of RAM anyways, so it's moot.

Even the games that are 64-bit, are usually more optimized and use LESS ram than their 32-bit counter-parts.

There is no getting around the game is poorly optimized...but it's an Indie title, that just released. So give it time.

I'm enjoying the immensely game regardless of the bugs, and I'm impressed with the rate of hotfixes being produced. Very happy with my purchase.
Yeah, I'm gonna have to lean towards the poor optimization option on this. I have a quad core, and it uses all of one and barely any of the others. I don't have a super high end PC, but what I do have should be more than plenty to run the game at 1080p/60+FPS. Which is does until you get to town then it sinks to around 30FPS. Playing with the settings doesn't seem to do much other than gain a frame or two. Changing the resolution does nothing.

What little I've played of the game is great. I can see this being one of those under the radar modern classics, but I really hope Larian puts some effort into making the game run smoother.
Ok guys, temp fix came from Tornis twitchtv chat (i am watching him since release), so i wanted to share here.

This is for 4 core (8 thread) cpus, and may work for other CPUs also.

Start tast manager > find game .exe (i dont know exact name) > right click that name > Set Affinity > Disable only CPU 0 and CPU 1 (CPU 2 3 4 5 6 7 active)

without this tweak, one core almost always %100 , %30 , %5 , %5 etc

With this tweak , one core almost %50-85 , %30-60, %15-45, %5-15

I made up numbers but you got the idea i think...

I will share here if more usefull tweaks like this talked on Tornis's chat.

Seems to work!

I have 4 threads doing relatively the same amount of work now. Thanks for the tip!

I disabled two cores on my Phenom X x6 (six core) and it definitely spread the load out more. Rather than one core at 100% and the others barely used, it seems to be using about three cores at roughly 60% / 40% / 30%. I'm not sure it actually increased my framerate, though. I'll have to check when I get back into a city where it was worse.

i have same CPU like you Jinx and have same problem too (low fps on town)
Runs perfectly fine on my i7 4770k & 290, not seeing any stuttering or lower fps at all.
Just finished a session and my framerate (to the north, not in town) went from around 40 to 26-28 fps after playing an hour or so. This is really frustrating :tshock:

I mean, the game is playable with a crap framerate, but it's ridiculous that it should be so bad on PCs that can easily run demanding AAA games.

Not running very well at all on my:

I7 4770 3.4 Ghz
20 GB Memory

Graphic Card: Geforce GT 635
Well, your GPU isn't designed for gaming, only video watching, so it kinda makes sense.
i5 2400, GTX 770, 8GB of RAM. Runs like poopy poop for me.
Hopefully we hear something about optimization soon.
What about a 6 core processor like my AMD FX-6300

Your 6300 is almost identical to my Phenom II x6 1090T. I'm getting pretty bad performance, like 28-40fps a lot of the time. (12GB ram and GTX760 4GB video card)

Luckily, the game is still awesome even at 30fps, though there is no excuse for it.

RAM is one of those things that people think is a silver bullet, whereas in reality it hasn't been a limiting factor for me in 5 years when I went to 6Gb from the previous standard of 4Gb. I don't know what all of these 12-16Gb systems are supposed to accomplish. Growing room?

I have over a thousand tabs saved as default in firefox... I need those kinds of amounts of RAM :D (When I got this computer I read everywhere '4GB is more than enough for gaming' and I regret taking that advice, lol)

Not as good as the old Bill Gates quote back in the days of DOS were he stated "640K ought to be enough for anybody."... that one really did not work out :B1:
