War for the Overworld vs Dungeons 2
So it looks like we have 2 new Dungeon Keeper type games. Does anyone know how they compare? What a golden age for gaming we live in. Thank God for the Unity engine and its ability for small teams to produce great games.

I've only watched a few videos on Dungeons 2, but it looks good and I plan on getting it. D2 looks to be a hybrid of DK and the old Warcraft RTS series. You can build your dungeon underground, then take some minions above ground to wander around. Pretty cool concept.

I'm currently playing WFTO, and enjoying it. Very much like DK2. Yeah, it's a little buggy, but steadily improving.

And WftO is more of a DK clone in terms of core mechanics, but with a completely changed pace and some design choices geared towards online play rather than offline immersion.
I've yet to play Dungeons 2, but WftO is definitely a lot closer to the DK games.

From what I could gather, they're two different pair of shoes - similar in the environment and narraive design, of course, but quite different in terms of gameplay. Much like with WftO and Dwelvers.

I really hate that graphic design in Dungeons 2, like some game for under 10 years old kids, so much colours, cartoonish characters ..yuck

I was hoping for some creature proggresion, creating armors or weapons for them in some forge, leveling up with some skills ... nope its just plain simple and boring rts with nothing interesting

And WftO has none of that, either. Why isn't WftO just plain simple and boring rts with nothing interesting, then?

You are wrong, on certain levels creatures get various abilities
And whole game is lot more complicated and I like it, I never liked simple games
But thats ofcourse my own taste, I guess somebody will find that graphics and childish humor in Dungeons 2 appealing too

kalypso sucks ..
got 2 games from them both were unfinishes pices of ♥♥♥♥
not going to get fooled again ..
dungeons 2 have some nice ideas but it lags in different units and rooms to build
Dungeons 2 has no gamebreaking bugs which are forcing you to start the same mission over and over again.
I have already lost all my interests in this WftO because of of this bugged mess and none of the patches ever fixed the problems.
Dungeons 2 on the other hand is innovative and is overall a very good game. No gamebreaking bugs and I can replay missions if I want to and not if the game is forcing me to do it because of bugged triggers.
But maybe its just a "feature" to increase the game length...what is not my taste!

wtfo is buggy and laggy and dung 2 is stupid to the point of revulsion; overall i prefer wtfo.

I would say dungeons 2 is better atm due better polish. The game don't have any missing animations, wierd tooltips, gamebreaking bugs unlike WTFO.

I wonder when these companies will realise that the game people actually want, is a DK 1 with better graphics, not their own aweful interpretation of what DK should be.

I own both and for whats its worth Dungeons 2 is the more enjoyable game to me. It lets you build, level up and upgrade your dungeon/minions at mostly a pace you set. Its a more enjoyable simulator to me and yeah, far FAR fewer bugs.

WftO needs to slow its pace down, make it's minions stand-out more (probably by decreasing the total you can have and making leveling them up more impactful) and make the combat less of a total bumrush cluster****.
Travitar Apr 25, 2015 @ 2:02pm
I also own both. In my opinion WftO will eventually be the better game with more content/patches/slowing the game down/balance, but right now Dungeons 2 is by far better.

Dungeons 2 is a great game to play while waiting for patches of WftO ;)

But my recommendation to anyone that even kind of liked Dungeon Keeper is to get both, you're missing out if you don't.
