Gameplay questions
I have trouble understanding how the portals work. Both the normal one and the beast den's one.

The normal one allows creatures to enter your dungeon, okay. Creatures are attracted by the rooms, you have, okay.
But how can I get more creatures (because I have six torture racks and only two succubus) of a specific species to join? Also, just to be sure, there's no limit to how many creatures pops from the portal, right? I'm not gonna run out of these?

Similar thing with the beast den's portal, it says in my game "population : 23%". I don't think that's the number of creatures I can have around, as my den is already full, so is it what I fear it is, the total of summonable creatures before the underworld is empty?

Also, while I'm at it, better clear it out of my system : how I get the gobelins to stop hogging the training dummies? They're all level 10, meanwhile some of my cultists are level 1.
And does eating in a tavern costs the creatures money?

Sorry about the questions, but there's no manual, and I couldn't find a good explanation other than "portal makes beasties in".

All good questions!

I think there is a limit on portals, but as I recall the population percentage only appears when you mouse over your first claimed portal? Or have I got that entirely wrong?

I'd like to see an actual number against portals and beast dens. I really don't care that it's "23%", I want to know how many I've got and how many slots I have left. Nowhere else in the game are these kind of limits displayed as percentages - your barracks doesn't say "75% in use" it says "3/4 in use".

Do converted heroes count against the portal cap? How about converted monsters?

And I haven't managed to work out whether multiple beast dens increase your beast cap. I suspect not as you'd be able to attract too many units that way, but I'm not entirely sure.

If the mechanic works the same as in Dungeon Keeper, when you're at cap and want different monsters in your dungeon, just start chucking the ones you don't want back into the portals and you'll hopefully get something else next time.

Oh god, I remember being swarmed with Maidens during the endgame. Monster spawning was far from perfect in DKII. At least WftO allows me to stock on cultists.

Here's everything you need to know about the spawn mechanics:
https://forum.subterraneangames.com/threads/spawn-rules.9727/

About the Gnarlings. They will continue working at the barracks, because when you have the barracks upgrade they will support the second minion more efficent.
When you drop a satisfied minion at the training prop the gnarling will give him this stop.

Yes, minions will give you money for eating in the tavern
You're a lifesaver, Böhser Onkel.

Great link, exactly what I needed to see! Thanks.

So the populations are displayed as percentages because some units count for more than others. Not sure what I think about that, but I can't think of a better way to display it at the moment.

And a beast den of three contiguous 5x5 blocks will cover me for all my beast spawns.

And a 13x13 barracks should fill a one-portal dungeon full of Gnarlings...

Exactly

You can have 38 Beast in total (Oculus 10, Skarg 10, Shadow 9, BAFU 9)
You just need 77 Tiles of a Beast den for that, with other words, you must have a 8x9 + 5 tile Beast Den.
The Beast Den Portal is contra productive.

(1,5*10)[10 Oculus]+(2*10)[10 Skarg]+(2*9)[9 Shadow]+(2,5*9)[9 BAFU]+1[Beast Den Prop] = 76,5 ~ 77

Exactly, because you would need 36 Props and that's a 13x13 area.

So to get more than 2 succubus, I must kick a lot of gnarlings, or a few augurs.

Or I could drag the inquisitors to the torture room. I like that idea.

I don't know how many Portals you have... but I think yes.
But I think you know how it works now.

Btw, I also have a MP Strategy Guide, if you want to know more Tips and Tricks^^

Sorry, I can't hear you over the inquisitors screaming. But I'll check the guides, sure.

Since I need to check if torturing one of your own creature raise the entire species' efficiency.
