I personally prefere DK II.
But I like WFTO over them because better balanced, imo and more stuff to use, etc. (Further to I prefere the competetive RTS style over the Sim style)
But if you have ot ask, DK2 is probelby more your thing.
They are very different games.
If you want to take a look at DK1 it is important to realise it was mostly designed ot be played with 2 to 4 people as a multiplayer LAN game. The AI players were written in the last 2 weeks before the game was released, and even with later released patches, the AI players suck. However, the campaign mode works copletely fine, even wit hthe poor AI. The campaing is long, fun, and definetly also challengine with an increasing difficulty with each level.
DK1 was obviously rushed to be released, and some fun features were never put into the final game, some things are slightly buggy (sometimes creatures get stuck somewhere). The game is balnced ok but once you figure the game out there isn't much you need to do other than train your creatures untill you are ready to kill your enemy.
DK2 is a much slower game. It is less of a dark themed game. In my personal opinion it is a bit slow, and lacks the free choise of what stragegy you desire to use. But ofcourse, the mostly better than those of DK1. But both games are horribly outdated so that shouldn't bother you anyway.
If you dont care that the game is old and isn't completly balanced to the finest of the finest, i advise you buy both. It's very cheap. Give them both a try and try to see what the hype was all about. If you dont like old games, dont bother with either one.
Dungeon Keeper 1 gets hard in the final levels of the campaign, Dungeon keeper 2 never got hard imo. there are no difficulty settings.
Having replayed both of them recently, I didn't find DK any harder than DK2 this time around (with the exception of the Deeper Dungeons...)
I think like me, you probably found DK2 a little easier because you already had experience with DK1 to give you a "running start".
Fair point. You might be right about that.
And yes lets also clarify that if you get Dungeon Keeper 1 you should go find the gold edition, wich is two games; Dungeon Keeper and Deeper Dungeons bundled together. Deeper Dungeons is actualy nothing but a lot of extra levels, disturbuted asif it is a seperate game.
Don't wory, most times you see Dungeon Keeper 1 these days it is the gold edition, as that is the most complete version.
