War for the Overworld or Dungeons 3?
I'm currently torn between getting the HB with War for the Overworld in it or waiting to buy Dungeons 3 during the Halloween sale... I'm a big fan of Dungeon Keeper 2 and only want to get into one of those. Which one should I get?

Because you are on the War for the Overworld Forum, I suggest WFTO.

Thought it depands on what you are looking for.
I played Dungeons 3, and its really slow paced and IMO very unbalanced.
WFTO has a good pacing and is decently balanced and can be challanging but still beeing fair.

Further to the humor of Dungeons 3 is very different to Dungeon Keepers Humor. WFTO has it own humor but its fiting the theme. I personally cant stand the humor of Dungeons 3

WFTO if you want a faithful spiritual sucessor to dungeon keeper.

Dungeons 3 kind of does its own thing.
They both have good parts and bad parts when you compare them. WftO is the most faithful when compared to the original Dungeon Keeper games, with the only personal downside being it can tank on some computers not up to snuff due to the engine used to make it. It has lots of variety and different ways to play and can be really enjoyable if you loved the originals.

The Dungeons series, while still inspired, is definately its own twist on the genre that can be either better or worse depending on your tastes. You really can't compare the two much more than that.

you should also consider the Humble Expansion Pack WFTO is selling on their Brightrock (developer name) store.
It's £9.53 for the rest of the expansions and the Underlord edition upgrade (roughly translates to $12.37 USD and it's 40% off, the offer ends oct 31st)

I never played WFTO, but I did play through all of the campaigns of Dungeons 3's base game and also it' DLCs. Dungeons 3 is definitely a very good game. It does have some problems with buggy worker AI though.

The Dungeon part of Dungeons 3 is very similar to Dungeon Keeper, and plus Dungeons 3 has a whole new aspect that DK doesn't have at all: the Overworld.

I don't fully agree with the statement above that Dungeons 3 humor is completely different than Dungeon Keeper. Dungeon Keeper has all sorts of incredibly asinine silly stuff in it. And so does Dungeons 3.

I find the humor in Dungeons 3 to be hilarious because they go all-in with it and fully embrace it.

In contrast, I found the humor in DK to always be unfunny and immersion-killing, and context-breaking, because DK can't decide whether it wants to have a serious tone or a silly tone, so it tries to do both, and therefore IMO it ends up presenting both tones very badly, in a super awkward mix that doesn't work at all.

The humorous tone in Dungeons 3 does work, because unlike with DK, Dungeons 3 doesn't ever flip-flop about its tone. Although if you hate silly stuff, then Dungeons 3 probably wouldn't be the game for you.

99% of Dungeons jokes are based on references to popular titles, which are so politicle correct and tries so hard to not piss anyone off.
For me it was like "this is funny, so laught" in a very tedious and crinshy way.
for example: "Shoutout: Buy games from Kalypse. *Caught* The narator also have to earn some money"
"The guy grimly is a ..... . Dont get confused with another dwarf from a popular movie."

Beside Dungeonkeeper 2
"Micro-piglets stalk your dungeon - beware"
"Keeper you have something unpleasent under your fingernail"
Their you have some point of reference in your actions or surroundings.

WFTO:
Just saying micropiglets or sacrifizing 3 succubus, should show how much love and detail from DK went to WFTO.
And yes they take aprilfools jokes very serious ^^' (Democorn, Dungeon Hearts, etc.).
But it also has their own jokes, especially about chunders.
And same here, you hear jokes about your actions and surroundings, some childish jokes, some very very nerdy jokes, some jokes about DK, some in their own univers, and some with a deeper meaning.

What I want to say is, that the humor of Dungeons and Dungeon Keeper is very different, and that I dont like the humor of Dungeons, but some do like it.
I stoped playing Dungeons 2 and 3 after a while because I couldn't stand the humor for 1-2 hours.
On the other side, in DK and WFTO i enjoyed it and rarly felt out of place.
And WFTO is a more majour tone then DK2 thoigh less in DK1.

Dungeons humor is VERY forced.

Its the type of joke that is said, and immediately explained.

Dungeon keeper usually kept a serious tone with light sprinkle of humor in it.

Honestly comparing the type of humor is like comparing day and night.
