game tries to run on integrated gpu
the cause is as simple as steam running on the integrated gpu and the game is not programmed to switch gpu. the bug tracker i can not post on without an account so i post it here. the game needs code to switch gpu. many steam games have this issue.

It usually does, but certain PC's do not register certain game as a game for various reasons, after my experience. (mine wanted to run CoD4 without graphics card).

It's easy to fix though. Go to your Graphics card settings and add WFTO as a programm. Takes about 2min

Sometimes it's due to your monitor, actually. I had the situation recently where I plugged my monitor into a different slot on my computer than I did previously, and it turns out that one plug used the integrated graphics card, while the other was a direct line into the Nvidia graphics card. I switch which plug my monitor was connected to and voila, everything ran better.
i have already told the nvidia control panel to run the game on the nvidia card but steam overrides the setting and runs it on the integrated gpu. not that this is the only game but the others is fairly old while this is much newer. fortunately, this game is still being updated.

whats your specs?
Btw, make sure you added the right wfto.exe or how its called
i have intel hd 4600 and gtx 770m. other specs is no required in this situation.

Typically whether a program is run on Integrated or Discrete (Your GTX 770M) is determined by the graphics drivers on your PC. Steam shouldn't be overriding any settings regarding this as it doesn't really hold a stake on how the game is run.

The only other culprits I can think of are BIOS settings or other software responsible for the power management of your laptop (you should also make sure your laptop is plugged in and drawing power from a wall socket).

Can you upload some screenshots for us to Imgur or something of:

- The setup of your Nvidia Control Panel for WFTOGame.exe, WFTO.exe and the Global Settings. It might even be worth a screenshot of Steam.exe as well just to see if that's potentially having an impact.
- The message which is displaying to let you know Steam is overriding these values.

I've also heard that you can add an option to the Windows right-click context menu to run an application with a specific renderer. You can do this by clicking the "Desktop" dropdown in the Nvidia control panel and selecting "Add "Run with graphics processor" to the context menu".

You'll then be able to run any game you desire with the correct rendering device by right-clicking on them in the windows interface.
i have been trying to run the steam app itself on the dedicated gpu but it runs on the integrated one. warcraft 3 runs only on the dedicated gpu as it is programmed to do so by blizzard. steam is programmed to run on integrated gpus and overrides windows`s settings. my battery is not working so it had to be removed for maximum cpu power. my graphics drivers is up to date. run with graphics processor is enabled by default so it have always been enabled but even selecting the nvidia gpu for a game running through steam does not help. steam overrides it. slender: the arrival is programmed to override steam`s settings, so is ducktales: remastered. those runs on the gtx 770m. you need to change your code to override steam`s settings.

As this topic is ongoing in our ticketing system as well I'm going to repost our final statement as I think it answers your previous post as well.

To summarise though we've pretty much exhausted our usual options to resolve this and to further help you we'll need additional engagement in a troubleshooting process.

At this point we're at a loss as to what to suggest. The steps we've provided have worked in any case where this has been an issue for other users and for the vast majority this issue never occurs at all thanks to the developments in OS and Driver software.

The Graphics Renderer is not determined by us in the game's code rather it's determined at below game-engine level as part of the setup of the Graphics Driver. The game engine thusly uses the API to render the game on whatever renderer the operating system is telling it to use, rather than the other way around. Here's an image which shows that concept in action.

Example[imgur.com]

Generally as the drivers get smarter and operating systems are improved the heuristic algorithm which determines dynamically what hardware should be used become more intelligent. For most users on the latest OS and Drivers this shouldn't be a problem, and we can confirm this based on our own systems which have switchable graphics.

So to summarise the decision of which graphics hardware to use is done on a level below software, not by our game, the engine, Steam or even the OS but rather by drivers which are running in the Kernel. As such you setting up a profile for our program should override the settings which it has determined to use.

At this point we are unable to offer further assistance to you unless you are willing to engage further in troubleshooting with us. To do that we need a few things from you:

  • A Full DXDiag output on the hardware and software configuration of your computer.
  • A Screenshot showing how you've determined the game is running on the integrated chip rather than the discrete card.
  • Average FPS shown on the Main Menu, it's possible that the Integrated running is being misreported to you and the game is correctly running on your discrete card.
  • Screenshots of your Nvidia Control Panel setup for WFTO.exe, WFTOGame.exe, Steam.exe and Global Settings
  • Without this we'll be unable to help you further and can only direct you to seek help from other technical sources on the topic, such as Nvidia or third-party forums.

Thanks,

Lee

I don't want to offend you, but how do you actually try to run your games with your graphics card?

Thank you for the DXDiag, I've deleted your post just to keep the DXDiag private, though there's no identifiable information in it, it will be very helpfuul to us.
did you download the screen shot? if not, here it is again: https://www.hiveworkshop.com/attachments/screen-shot-jpg.298156/
in the future, please delete just the links and not the entire post. deleting posts is rude.

Yup got it. :)

We can't edit posts. That functionality is only available to Valve's moderators (It was removed from developers over three years ago)
