Map Editor Undo Function
Hi Everyone :))

I just started using the map editor, because I wanted a larger map to play on.

I had taken time to place unbreakable blocks around the borders, and then accidentally used the earth block with the CTRL key, and the editor removed all unbreakable blocks from the map.

Is there an UNDO key, with the map editor, so such accidents can be errrr... Undone?
I tried the standard Windows Ctrl Z, but to no avail.

Thanks for your time.

JO.

As far as I know there is no 'undo' button. You either have to restore the map or go back to your last save. It is very easy to make a mistake like this which is why I would recommend regular saving as well as using the autosave feature in case you forget to save.

Thanks for the reply Webbernever1

Seems bad that no such feature was included.

"Underlord - your Dev Minions have failed in their task. As a considerate Keeper, you should apply a deft SLAP to each of them, to guide them away from such errant behaviour in the future".

Maybe it will become an addition in the future, but I'm not going to hold my breath. Probably not a cost effective proposal.

Thanks again Webb, I'll just save more often. :))

The only way an undo function could exist is to save the state of the map automatically after each change you made (ready to go back to the previous state as the Undo). Well you've seen how long it takes to save a map, would you like to have to wait that period of time after every single click?

Yes. I did notice the map saving speed, and also the time it takes to actually exit the game. Ewww!

The undo would be saved to RAM, not disk, (if you have enough RAM), but I'm not sure of how much memory a map takes up at 129x129, but as I said, it's just speculation, as I doubt it will happen.

There is the possibility of some Map Editor improvements making it into the next major patch. I will note it down and chat with the programmer responsible when the time comes to see if there's any chance of getting something like this in.

I don't think a full undo history would be likely but perhaps a last state undo. Can definitely appreciate the frustration on this. But at least I can say no promises.

Thanks Noontide.

Yes. That is more in line with my thoughts. A single layer of undo. I've now got into the habit of pressing F5 a lot, to save my progress now.

Thank you for your response. :D
