As january 2025, does meadow regrow?
Hi guys,

I read few older thread here and there about meadow not growing back. It seems that it does work for some people and not for others.

I do have few fields with goat and it seems to me that meadow is not growing back.

is it a bug or I am missing something? Do I have to empty the field from animal to let it grow back?

Briefly anyone fully understood how that system works?

The meadow counts as a food source so if you have already loaded the barn with food the meadow cannot grow. At least that is my understanding of it.

Ok so I would need to deplete the food stack, then remove the animal from the field (so they wont starve). Then meadow should regrow?

Or just keep moving your animals between different pastures with an animal trailer. But that's really expensive compared to just buying and tossing in a few hay bales.

So, to be clear, if i fill with hay bales, grass won't regrow?

yeah also considering that I do have 200 goats in my field. It takes a while to move these. So did you experience that the grass wont regrow if there is animal in the field?

Buying or even making your own hay bales. If one is already raising milk cows, they will require a lot of hay, along with silage, for their TMR, so any other animals that may use hay, will be easier to just make and use hay instead of messing around with the meadow grass stuff.

But am I understanding that meadow grass does not regrow while there is:
1- Other food in the pen and/or
2- Animals in the pen?

I might have to try to test that before I sell my current sheep/goat pen. I have other issues with that pen besides the meadow grass, which is why I will be replacing it.

not only expensive. It takes for ever since you can only load one "group" at a time which is stupid as hell.
You are far better off to not care about the "meadows" at all and just toss in a couple of bales (even tmr can be baled)

As far as I understand it, that is correct.

All you should need to do is leave some space equivalent to the crop size of the meadow in the food storage. Then the meadow should regrow while the stores feed the animals.

But it makes no sense.
If i fill the food with bales they don't touch the meadow and should regrow, if i let it empty they will and, obviously, won't.
That's an error that should be fixed.
The gras regrows, no matter if you have hay or anithing else as food stored, because they have different "storages". So hay will not limit it. There are some bugs with the regrowth. Easiest to stay clear is, to build the stall on a gras field.... when asked if you want to seed the outer area with meadow, just say "no", so you keep the gras. You don't need to do anything except sometimes fertilize it.

I just did a test, dropping a sheep pasture on a grass field (and select NO on planting meadow) and indeed the property "Meadow" has some content in the animal dialog.

So I was not able to test at this point if the regrow works, but how can you fertilize it since the pasture has no door? You use a super strength cheat to drop the tractor in the field?

By the way, if that bug grinds your gear, you could decide, once a year (like lets say in May) to regrow the meadow this way. In your save game folder, go in the placeables.xml file, find this entry:

<husbandryMeadow>
<fillType name="GRASS_WINDROW" fillLevel="0.000000" capacity="81668.742188"/>
</husbandryMeadow>

You need to update the value of fillLevel.

Obviously the game must not be running to edit this.

I did invest a lot in goats, I have 800 in my game. So the meadow regrow is extremely important to me. So I regrow it this way at spring. So I am ok bringing bales in the winter, but I should have few months of break during the spring and summer.
