The headlands is so that the workers do not have to leave the field they are working on, it is a way to keep them from getting on stuck on objects outside the field such as trees, power poles, etc.
The AI might take longer but it doesn't get stuck since it never leaves the field or at least mine doesn't. I take 1 hour longer per field than having it get stuck once. For the record I tend to play UK maps with tight spaces and the FS22 AI was useless in those.
Having said that, carrot harvesting and similar where you need a trailer following at all times need a better solution for single players.
- Unable to navigate a power pole close to the field, plow hooked the pole and they just sat there spinning the wheels.
- Backing up into a fence with a large implement and sat there continually trying to back up through the fence. Fences are AI workers arch nemesis.
- Failure to continue moving on a field with no obstacles in the way. Requiring firing and rehiring of AI worker to continue. Nothing more, just needed a worker to be rehired to continue moving forward.
- Having AI workers continue where they left off when loading is a nice touch, not a case of getting stuck but that also doesn't work all the time and they are unable to continue for no reason.
Not saying it's not better than FS22, but there are definitely times when they get stuck. You've been lucky to have zero issues with AI workers. I can say for certain that having the AI workers do the headlands first doesn't necessarily prevent them from getting the plow hooked on a power pole. And 100% doesn't prevent them from reversing into a fence and then continue reversing (spinning the wheels in reverse) because they want to reverse further as there isn't anything in their script to allow them to work around fences correctly.
They frequently take wide turns are do several loops around the field to get into position, back into fences, back into or drive forward into trees, most certainly getting stuck.
The new AI works really well in odd shaped fields and usually can avoid some obstacles near the field. But as mentioned, it's rather slow. So when the field has plenty of clearance at all sides and 4 perfect 90° corners, I wish I could use the old AI so that the work gets done faster.
It could be something as simple as being able to turn headlands off and clicking a checkbox about permission to make turns outside the field while assigning the AI worker.
I even use AI to drive to the contracts. A few times they may have gotten hung up on something.
Overall i think the AI is absolutely 100% better, but might be a bit slower like someone else said. As for steering assist, it could certainly use some added options.
Just my opinion though!
Hopefully the "Follow me " mod comes out soon. I used that all the time in FS22.
Most people just got confused after release that they had to CONFIGURE the worker now how to do the job with holding down the H key.
