Its normal.
Two things : Seasons, and the new "disaster" settings. You can turn both off and take all the fun out of the game.
You can turn the disaster thing toi "visual only" as a compromise.
And i want say for 100% sure that seasons in game do the same as the brilliant Seasons mod where you *will* randomly lose crop in some patches, or even a Whole fields.

If its still early in the season, you can re-plant/seed the area or the whole field. You really have too see just how far the growth is first or you might get nothing when its time to harvest.

I think it's just a bug.

Affirmative, only way i was able to get rid of mine is painting over them and plowing them.
Else they just stay there forever and get more and more, had 7 at one point in one small field, which pretty much reduced its yield to about half.

I tried plowing but that didn't work. Never thought of painting over them. That would be like creating a new piece of field. I'll have to try it next year.

I did.
What you suggested, then it kept making more and more patches. I don't know why but thank you for trying to help.

It even happens to the AI field that I haven't touched.

Ye, it does keeping making more and more patches, but in order of not getting a field full of them I paint over them and plow them, which makes stuff grow on it again.
The patches are clearly a bug tho, I doubt there is any way to make them stop appearing, besides maybe turning off all the gameplay mechanics, but then I might as well stop playing :D

I'll just wait and see if they fix the bug It is annoying, though.

I turn all the major mechanics of the game off. just to see if it would work in a new save, it did nothing.
