Forestry is miserable
Just spent 7 hours trying to expand field 1 by cutting down trees and using the chipper. It was a terrible experience.

Forestry is only worth doing with the autoload mod, and even then only with the pine trees that can be chopped and stripped by one machine. It's always been that way. The stuff that requires you to load pallets isn't much better.. it just takes far too long in real world time to do that for it to be worthwhile. Autoload should really just be an option in the base game at this point.

This right here.

Forestry has been crap through all of the series. I've tried it thorough each iteration and give up after a few hours.

I tried to make an contract yesterday (wood delivery) but the crane control is an absolute disaster. It's been a while since I played FS but in FS15 I dont think it was that bad.

You can change the control of the arm in settings from standard "helpfull automatic" arm something, to a different setting that I at least feel is much better. Try it out 😊

Absolutely this, the Easy Controls mode merges different functions into one control, which is only helpful if that's what you want. I'm using an old flight yoke and it has enough controls to do almost all of the movements, setting it up was a pain, and it's still going to take me time to remember everything and which direction of the axis I need to move to do the thing I want, but it's made it possible.

I feel everything related to forestery is WAY better then before.Ive been doing in f22 almost 500 hours of forestery on my save.....First you should get use to what you use and its can take multiple hours before your brain start acting more fluently with the ingame control. Some take longer tho for X reason....

I do get what your saying , but having used excavators in real life... This game just messes with my head. Having a selection to invert an individual control axis would help a lot, to try and keep things as close as possible to real life.

Actually I should add, I am using a combination of hotas and or xbox controller.
I could employ two joysticks to be realistic, but that wouldn't work for my current sim rig set up, so in a way i could make it better, but still individual inversion selections on axis would help

Have you rebound some things to match the pattern in irl? if so how is it "messing with you're head"

Why the inversion? pull back to go up push forward to go down, Not up to go up an down to go down that's wrong
I'd Like to see tree deleting from the map editing mode. You can put trees in from that mode now let me delete all the trees instead of re enacting a good old fashion clear cut or charge me a little extra to place a building because it shares space with trees.

Just play with 2 joysticks. I m loving forestry ant it's easy money.

if only they would use real 2 stick controls. that constant hold shoulder buttons is super confusing.

And I do use cranes and excavators in real life so I know how they work.

This would be awesome honestly, but make the price of tree removal be somewhat costly I'd say so it wouldn't be an absolute breeze to deforest entire areas and turn it into a field.

On that note, I had a similar experience to OP in my journey to clear out the trees behind the starting cow pasture...trying to deal with the super massive trunks of the american elm, boxelder, and oak trees, etc. was an absolute slog due to how time consuming chopping them up enough to even fit in the mulcher was...let alone a lot of the trees would constantly bug and have invisible hitboxes still of removed limbs, making putting them into the mulcher a nightmare.

I eventually gave up and got super strength so I could forcefully clip the massive trunks into the mulchers hitbox for mulching by force, physics craziness aside.

Took me pretty much a day and a half of mostly focusing on it to remove just about 20 trees...and not a small portion of that was wasted trying to grind the stumps that just absolutely refused to be removed due to some hitbox issue.
I can't imagine trying to log for an income source in this game. Just clearing a few trees to make some room on the farm has become an exercise in masochism.

Believe it or not, Deforesting a plantation on a field is way less tedious than clearing

This :steamthis: (more or less)
Its really stupid you have to hold the shoulders to use any "cranes". When you switch to the "cranes" it should take over the controls so you only have to move the sticks (and use shoulder if / when you need a tad of control on the vehicle).
And to be fair, you only really need One stick for movements, and a button for open/close the grab. You could even use d-pad for extend / retract boom.

Blaming the game because you don't know how to do it and don't have the experience of doing it isn't the way to DO IT.

LEARN. Finesse.
there is no finesse in physics going haywire

THIS!
Attachments for picking up logs with wheelloaders and stuff is still crap. Why? Because there's no deformation under the log when the tool is forced onto the ground to get underneath the log. The Volvo attachments for wheel loaders were as expected. Useless.

It's funny how they made attachments snap to a vehicle, while for loose logs there's no snapping. Not even for pallets.
It's already there, but GIANTS didn't use the computer code for those.
