Silage…bales or bunker
Not sure if this has been asked before (my search doesn’t work for some reason).

With regards to silage, is there any advantage between bales or loose silage? If I create loose silage do we get more yield? I wouldn’t think so as grass is grass.

What do you think?

Thanks

Yield i think it's the same, but i always prefer bales, they are somehow cheaper and faster to make, and don't require a lot of equipement, you can just drive a tractor with a mower in front and a baler with wrap in the back.
The bunker require compacting and extra machines like bucket to move silage, and sometimes get stuck and can't be fully opened.
I tried a couple of time, but i hate bunkers, bales are easier to move and store.

Yes. Thanks for your reply. I was more concerned with yield. I’ve been making bales since fs19 much easier to manage.

Never checked, but i think it's the same. But i'll choose bales all the day then bunkers, even if they are 20% less yield XD

I'd rather be run over by my own tractor pulling a bush hog than do bunkers ever again.
There's some nice silo mods that you load grass into and it will ferment it into silage for you. It can also make it into hay, and do corn silage with a bi-product of digestate if you want to go that route. I've never seen a difference in yield unless I use the additive and I don't even know how much the additives really help in this one.
There is no way in hell that I would ever consider using a bunker... I tried that in FS22 for about 1 harvest and it was so broken and glitchy that I just deleted it with all my harvest and said never again.
Bunker is the best when you want to do a lot of silage. You can use the big ones already on the maps. (You have too rent the plant or buy it).
All you need is a tractor+planner/silo roller, (dont equip wide tires) and something to get the silage out again. Buckets, conveyorbelt. Mods: Autoload conveyorbelt or LIZARD Forage Pickup makes it a breeze.
If you're raising cows at scale, a bunker hands down.

It's neutral equipment because it's one piece of TMR equipment replacing a baler (you need forager wagon for straw anyway).

You can compress with just a tractor and/or forage wagon as you collect and if you're mixing TMR (if you don't use the feeder bot) you can use an SPW or Leader mixer wagon to pick up your silage when you need it. Even if you use the bot, you can use this to vacuum up and deliver silage direct to the shed.

Additionally, I always go bunker because later on, when I can afford the harvester, I use corn for silage and you can't bale that.

(The other benefit to that is once you have silage from corn then all your grass can become hay for TMR)
