Whilst I might believe that the game could have blue screened your computer (Though not seen anyone else mention this), the quote of yours above suggest something is wrong with your PC if its running very slow when not in the game....
Look up the BSOD number, it will outline the cause.
You could also go to Steam | Help | System Information and paste the result. There may be clues there - for example, under specced or old drivers.
Feels like im on the verge of crashing, but never actually does. The stutters are just an annoyance, but the constant flickering is too distracting to really play, even if it works.
Yeah while the game was running my whole pc was slow except for the game itself, it was running smoothly.
I had a very similar issue when I played the new ARK and at first it was only that game crashing/blue screening, but it turned out my GPU was overheating and faulty - but at the time it was just that game pushing it so hard for it to happen.
