Shadow settings completely messed up?
Most of the time the highest shadow quality setting doesn't stick and save if you have the shadow distance at medium, it only saves when you have shadow distance at either low or very high.

But even if it saves the game isn#t actually showing you the highest shadow setting. Every time I try to hit high setting my shadows look like this:

Easy to reproduce, just load up the US map with beginner farm.

No matter if the settings actually show very high, or medium, they always look like this.
But by pure accident, one time only, they actually did load in for me when I tried to find out what setting is responsible for the weird framepacing stutter that I have where I changed one setting at a time and loaded back in every single change, I had one occasion where it actually looked like this:

Boom, there it is, shadow glory. But I didn't knew what i had at that point and flipped stuff around again and now I can't get this back, no matter how hard I try to achieve this. Not via settings, neither via ini file. It's frustrating.

What do your shadow settings look like?

I'm on a 4090, 7800X3D here.

Yeah, I'm trying to find the config file for graphical setttings, so i can manually set and save tthe filew. I have it set to high right now, but every time i move it to very high, it actually resets to medium./

No fix ?

I may have a solution for you.
I had the same issue. I turned on the console and when I set the shadow quality to very high, the console showed, that the shadow map size is not supported by the hardware.
After lots of experimenting, I found out that the setting for the number of shadow lights was the real cause, which I had also set to 10 (max). When I reduced this setting (in my case to 9), the error message did not show up any more and the setting of the shadow quality was saved.
Hope this helps!

To fix that you need to leave max shadow lights at default which I think is 7. IF you increase it to max it makes shadows cap at medium.

The other guy says 9 works so I will try that.

9 also works. I tried it. Stays saved at saved at Very High. even Screen space thingy stays now saved where it should be... on and at max.
Now it looks better in the shadow department.
