how do I put the grass in? i can't seem to tip my forage wagon in anywhere or use a universal bucket

if Riverbend starting farm, put a bale in the feeder. I haven't tried loose, so IDK about that yet

it said cows can eat grass, so was trying to give them that as food

I filled them with loose grass at start and water but their health stayed at 0 and so did productivity. The grass registered at filled the area you'd put in the bales.

you'd have to add hay, silage or straw to get the health of your cows higher than 0. Only grass or meadow isn't enough. Or mix it all to TMI before you throw it in. Hay seems to be the easy way.

Why even let them use Gras only if it does not give them at least a low productivity e.g. 10%

Makes Grass just useless as option for food.

OK, I purchased a Hay Bale in Riverbend, went over to where it looks like you feed the cows and nothing happens. I even placed the Hay Bale on that spot that look like a food bowl and nothing. So, where do you place the Hay Bale?? Do you just throw it over the fence into the meadow area?? Do you have to stuff it into that area that looks like it has a Bale Icon?? Thanks.

That pasture in Riverbend is for breeding only, the cows inside the pasture are for breeding only, they don't produce milk

It has been a while since I messed with animals in this game. However didn't straw always have to blown in? Could never use just a bale.

Now we have a little hay showing up in that area with the Bale Icon and the cows are now coming over to eat out of it, but the Hay Bale it still sitting on the ground in front. Still trying to figure it out.

Update: So, I loaded the Hay Bale back onto my loader with fork and then kinda shoved it into that open spot (it doesn't fit) where the Bale Icon is and after a little bit the Hay Bale disappeared and it registered as food for the cows. A little complicated.

Same here, didn't touch animals since FS15...
I bought square hay and put it straight into the feeder (the cage they feed from). It did fill the feeder up.

The starting pen is a breeding pen says only produces milk will not produce crap or slurry , also will not take straw I tried.

For some reason I cannot feed my cows. When I go to leave the hay bale inside the spot it’s supposed to be nothing happens, then I buy a mixer and I leave it in the other spot and nothing happens… the water rolls up just fine but the food doesn’t even register. What is going on can anyone help me??

Try putting it in the trough. Putting it on the ground didnt work for me.
