Root vegetables
Just curious: who does parsnips and carrots in this game? They just feel like torture to do, so slow and cumbersome to harvest. The pallets are so tiny, and even the biggest harvester is super slow and you need an AI on it plus you on a trailer next, moving at 4mph. Only one harvester has internal holding capacity (tiny at best) and works one row of vegetables at a time.

If you work these crops, why? To me they seem among the worst crops to do in the game. Any good reason to do them instead of anything else?

I bought a field that ended up having parsnips in it, it was a huge field. I saw the options for harvesting and just plowed them back into the earth lol.

The root vegetables are from the last FS22 dlc and Giants choice of harvesters on the root vegetables was....really bad, they got a lot of critics for that.

They just importet the FS22 machines into FS25 so there are no differences. Maybe some day we will get better machines, or simply mod a tank on the big harvester for easier harvest....or wait until mods add carrots to sugarbeet harvesters - with some adjustments these machines can also harvest carrots in reality.

I thought there was a mod on FS22 to have an AI follower. If that gets ported things would be better because the AI on the big root harvester does nonsense things and destroys crops near corners. I'd rather have me drive the big guy and have a follower with the tractor and trailer.

I'm one inch from doing just this. My heart goes to carrot and parsnip farmers if they have to do their work like in this game. I have a new respect for carrots from now on...

i got the mod of the combine harvester with tank, but i haven't had the chance to use it yet. they said it was the solution to this problem.

I did carrots, parsnips and red beets in FS22. I had a soup empire going and enjoyed doing them. There is a tractor pulled harvester with a tank and one that pits them in pallet boxes.

i use the machine with the bunker but 1 field is enough for me to get good money out of them in making tin cans.

That was "Follow Me" and yes, that one worked too. But Follow Me will take it´s time until being available again for FS25 so your best chances are still either adding a grain tank to the "zkivse" or sugarbeet harvesters with carrots enabled.

Guys, do vegetables also have higher yield like potatoes and sugarbeets?
Waggy Dec 3, 2024 @ 2:53pm
I downloaded that russian combine harvester, duplicated it and modded my version to become a vegetable harvester with a tank... when I do vegetables I use the in-game harvesters but let loose one leased AI machine like that with an AI worker to "cheat" ahead, it does 90% of the work...

However my next project will be to remove this machine because it looks so unrealistic and duplicate and mod one of the maybe potato harvesters or sugar beet harvesters which have a tank already to be a parsnip/carrot/red beet harvester, but I want to change its color to make it different.

As of patch 1.3, the sugar beet harvesters can also harvest red beets. Still need the one/two row overload only harvesters for carrots and parsnips.

In my experience there are certain crops that really only come into their own when you own a complete production chain. As someone above mentioned soup can be profitable.

But without a production chain those same crops are less than competitive with other crops that might have larger yields, lesser costs or a higher sell price for the same time spent working them.
