The "stripes with lime / no lime" is normal. As in IRL even.
Should be sorted with plowing, maybe cultivating.
after first growth stage hoe or weed. wait till ready to harvest and get your crop in.
EDIT: So I tried fertilizing first (which works) and then liming. That still has no effect (this time not visually either. Indeed I have to cultivate first, but that digs up stone!. So I have to buy a cultivator I don't need and do an otherwise unnecessary stone run (which cultivates again, so that is three times; doesn't make sense). This looks so broken to me!
Ended up planting the field (using an all in one planter/cultivator/fertilizer machine) and making the white go away, and then liming it. It recognised it that time, and I could then get on with the second round of fertilzation.
I must say that I'm either going nuts (possible) or sometimes things work in different orders. I've only worked with grain so far (cause I'm on hard mode and everything is expensive) but since getting the all in one machine I always have to test whether I can fertilize/plant with that, and then run the big trailer over to do the second round, or the other way around, or whether I have to plant, leave a month, and do the second fertilize run with the trailer then... etc.
I ought to write it down and see whether I'm going mad or not.
