Subsoiler stopped creating large stones
My subsoiler, the Combi plow Gold 4m was creating large stones, which is why I bought the stone picker. But after my third harvest it started creating small rocks instead. I thought it was odd. Maybe the field stopped producting large stones once you've picked up enough?

I created a new save, without any mods activated mind you, and bought the subsoiler and ran a pass on a field. Small rocks.

When and why did it stop producting large stones?! It's not any mod, that is tested by starting a new map without any.

Should be always the same rock size for the subsoiler. Funny tho if the fields eventually run out of rocks lol

You say cultivator here, tho you say earlier this was a subsoiler?
Cultivator makes always small stones... tho subsoiler making small stones should not happen.

This is typo or maybe you use the cultivator accidentally expecting it to be a subsoiler?

Just did a test...

Combi Gold subsoiler - Small stones, cultvated ground
All other subsoilers - No stones, seedbed ground

Deep cultivator - Small s tones, cultivated ground
Shallow cultivator - No stones, seedbed ground
Discharrow - no stones. seedbed ground
Powerharrow - No stones, seedbed ground
Spade - Small stones, cultivated ground

Where did my large stones go!?

If they did intentionally, they fixed the stones.
I get that stones turn ofted, but infinite stones in 22 was silly.
They must finish after a while!

Well, I don't get large stones anywhere now. New game, new field, small stones is the biggest I get unless I plow and then run a deep cultivator over it to make it medium stones.

I removed my ...\Documents\My Games\FarmingSimulator2025\ folder. Removed all FS25 files and verified and redownloaded ALL of it.

My subsoiler is now doing large rocks again.

I'm dumbfounded because this implies there was a setting within the game files, not the my games folder, becasue I had already tried removing that and got only small rocks.

So removing the game files and redownloading them (reverifying did nothing before). sorted it out. I have no idea what may have caused it.

I have done also some testing...

Same changes here, tho depends of the terrain state. Combi Gold seems to behave now like a cultivator for all field terrain states. Small stones only, makes cultivated appearance, tho also fixes "need plowing" requirement so is not reclassified as only a cultivator. Is still a plow thankfully.

Other subsoilers have different behaviors depending if the terrain has been harvested / has crops or has nothing planted, tho they also are all still plows and clear "need plowing" state.

On terrain with absence of crops, other subsoilers make only medium stones... not large size, only medium size of orange color on the map.

On terrain with harvested or living crops, they make no stones and make the state instead "stubble tillage" like they are a shallow cultivator.

No mods active, new save on the map Riverbend Springs. These behaviors are unexpected for me and are not how the base game was at launch. I only notice now tho because you mention it and I never use subsoilers lol

Wondering... maybe a mod we both downloaded made changes to the game files? Maybe this is intentional from Giants updater?

If a mod did this, most likely suspect would be "make field with cultivator", tho I check the source and there is nothing changing files. It is safely dynamic and applying only to vehicle data at runtime, which is correct how it should be done. It would be some other mod if one is culprit.

Maybe other people can check if their subsoilers work this way now?
Frustrating there are no patch notes for the Giants updater.

This means it could be a mod changing base game xml files. If you load all your script mods again, I think you will see the behavior return. Can rule out crossplay mods being the problem.

All subsoliers for strange reasons, since 22 or maybe even 19, was never set as deep cultivator, and doesn't make much sense by their description.

No, I had removed that folder completely as well, creating a new game.xml and gamesetting.xml. I tried this to eliminate if it was a mod issue. Even then I still had the issue.

With that folder gone completely gone, no mods, no saved settings, clean slate. The problem was still therem, even on a new map. Removing my Farming Simulator install folder and redownloading it sorted it out. And I just can't wrap my head around it. I haven't touched it and Giants haven't released a patch, so what changed? I even re-verified my game files without an issue before deleting it.

Currently. my old save is borked and can't produce large stones but a new save can. A new save with all the same mod as before is creating large stones.

So today, after I've had my breakfast, I'll say goodbye to my 40hour save and start over...

Just saying, as a more hobby farmer of 17+ years, stones never stop turning up in reality haha, small, big, doesnt matter, you just HOPE for small stones, because the larger ones usually need excavation, not a Stone Picker, albeit I am used to doing stone picking by hand (Hobby Garlic farmer, used to 30~HP small tractors though haha)
