Press the "~" key right before you try loading a savegame. When you see red text go by, you know you have a problem. It's likely an error on update.lua, which means that the game cannot resolve something that wants to happen on every game tick, which leads to the game not loading. Find the offending mod, disable it and see if the map loads. Then you can either fix the mod yourself, or just remove it. That choice is up to you.
Alternatively, you can just open the log.txt file in the same directory where game.xml resides and look there. Just do a Control-F and look for the word "Error". I personally like opening it in Notepad ++, which then you can "Find All" and you can find all instances in one go.
