Pre-ordered Collector's Edition, but does Giants have DLC sales?
Per topic I pre-ordered the collectors edition (mostly because I love the ignition system for immersion) but I also understand that I get a "giants" key, not a steam key (ie the game is not played from steam)

While I have no problem with this initially, it does occur to me now that one thing I LOVE about steam is that it constantly has sales - so my question is - does giants webpage (the developers) have a lot of sales on the DLC directly (like do they have sales on their storefront when they have same sale on steam) or if I get the collectors edition will I most likely be paying full price for any future DLC?

I really like the collector edition contents (even the maps/posters I know can be handy) but I'm starting to feel like I'm going to be missing out on a lot of content and sales if I don't buy it on steam instead...

thoughts and anybody else experiences with past games?

I'm having the same thoughts. Would really rather have the game on Steam... I may just cancel my collector's edition pre-order.

What do you mean it doesn't play through steam?
Where will it play through?

If you purchase the game through Giants directly, then it's not a Steam key. It will be a downloadable game from their server and it will have some sort of DRM, and it doesn't require Steam to launch.

Yeah like the good old days.

I thought you might be able to convert your Giants DRM to a steam key? Don't quote me on that. As for if Giants have similar sales to Steam, I guess they do? They are the ones who initiate the sales in the first place.

I dunno, my mind is currently maybe just get the giants version and play it as is for the time being, than eventually when DLC starts to release maybe pickup the steam version on a deep discount.

I dont tend to buy DLC as it immediately releases unless its MUST have item and that really hasn't happened with any farm DLC so far...so ya that might be what I do...

I wouldn't count on that. The Steam sales are generally events that Steam hosts at certain times of the year and invites developers/publishers to include their titles. Yes, Giants has the final say and they can put the title on sale whenever they wish, but I wouldn't expect them to put titles on their own store on sale simply because the same title on a Steam sale.

Now, I would check with Giants and see if:
a) does DLC purchased on Steam require a Steam version of the base game or can it work with the Giants store version still (as long as you add it to Steam manually)
b) is it possible to get the Giants store key converted to a Steam key instead.

Sadly, the answer to both is probably a big fat "NO" but maybe. Other option is to cancel your preorder collector's edition, preorder it on Steam, and then buy the ignition module on Amazon later (I'm sure it'll be available just like the beacon light from 22 is now available separately).

This is also a very good option, I might add. I bet by next Christmas, FS25 will be offered with a good 40% or more discount and it's not that bad to just buy it again.

I bought FS22 direct from Giants. I actually ended up re-buying it on Steam because of all the BS I went through with downloads and versions... might not be as big of a deal for people that don't play on dedi servers, but it ruined my day over and over again until I bought it on Steam.

I bought FS11 and FS13 direct from Giant's back in the day, I then repurchased FS13 on Steam and have bought every copy here since. The DLC's hardly ever went on Sale on Giant's direct site, but they always go on sale during Steam Sales, obviously it may take a bit on Steam to go on sale, but they always do.

There are a lot of 3rd Party peripherals out there for farming, honestly the ignition controller will be mass produced and cheap. You could find something a lot better, but that is just my opinion.
