What's your type?

Whilst making Isle of Swaps, I wanted there to be some important decision making in which types you use on your team, and how that would shape the playstyle of the run. I've gone for splitting each effect between the types without any overlaps, giving each type abilities unique to it. With the exception of healing because I don't want to pigeonhole you into using grass types if you want some recovery.

An exciting caveat is that a Critters' abilities are not restricted to those of its type! There's all kinds of Critter cards and I bet there's loads of combinations that aren't obvious at first. But for starters, let's break down these abilities!

Nature

Damage: Lowest
Abilities

Poison
Healing
Thorns

With Nature, even though their attacks aren't the strongest, their Poison will add extra damage each turn. Paired with Healing and Thorns, they become a long lasting defensive type.

Blaze

Damage: Highest
Abilities

Burn
Power Up/Down
Critical

With high attack damage and Critical boosting it further, Blaze is the type to use to wipe out the enemy quickly. Burn gives additional burst damage, and a strong damage option for defensive Blaze Critters. Power Up will of course increase the damage you do, with Power Down lowering the damage you'll take.

Aqua

Damage: Lowest
Abilities

Soak
Healing
Status Cure

Aqua is the second support type with both Healing and the unique ability to cure status effects from your team. Soak bolsters lower damage by splashing the damage to the other opponents with each attack giving them an advantage versus bigger Critter teams.

Volt

Damage: Middle
Abilities

Shock
Dodge
Stun

Volt types specialise in preventing the enemy from landing hits. Stun the enemies to stop them acting and Dodge the attacks that do happen. To top it off, Shock will damage anyone who even tries to use a skill card.

Terra

Damage: Highest
Abilities

Taunt
Defence Up/Down

It may look like Terra only has 2 abilities but Taunt can be applied to enemies too. As Critters only attack the Critter opposite, shining a spotlight can have your whole team burst down a single opponent. Especially one with lower Defence. Or you they can Taunt themselves, raise their Defence and become a sturdy wall.

Spectral

Damage: Middle
Abilities

Status Immunity
Random Buffs
Random Debuffs

The Spectral type has access to every Status effect if you're willing to roll the dice. Buff your team with a number of buffs whilst debilitating the enemies and using Skill cards that do more to weakened enemies.

Little Feedback

First, i could not finish my last run because of a bug : https://steamcommunity.com/id/Eonie/screenshot/5806903110129157273/ The game continue playing, with animation and music, but no hud is popping up. The first time i loaded the game, the "Tweesk" did not even appear. Only thing i can do is alt+f4. Aside from that, really like the game, i don't even feel like i have much to say on the demo, because i just love the design of the game. The swap menu could use some work thought. v0.094 - Cheaper Energy

Game

Critters who had cards in 2 types now have a second card in their primary type but as a dual type Critter
Dual type Critters can use skill cards from both of their types but they have lower stats than their counterpart and their weakness is +10
Basic Energy Cards now only give 1 energy but don't use up a Card Play
All Energy cards that give 2 different types of energy are removed (nature/blaze energy etc)
The above are replaced with 6 New Rare Energy cards for (user's type + [element]) that don't use a card play.
Common cards with a buff/debuff (poison/burn/soak/shock/taunt/thorns etc) now give 2 energy of that type.
Skill Cards have had their energy costs lowered across the board.
Skill Cards have their damage values buffed substantially.
The Basic Attacks (Nature Attack etc) no longer cost energy but all have 2 less damage.
The Basic Attack cards are also hybrid cards nature/aqua, blaze/terra, volt/spectral
The Types no longer have overlapping effects with the exception of Heal.
The Rare Hybrid Cards have been moved to the most applicable type's uncommon section beefing out the pool of uncommons leaving 5 Hybrids per type.
45 New Stickers can be found

Dotty's ability is now the 3rd/6th card used each is used turn twice
A 3rd boss has been made for nature,blaze, aqua and volt though they dont have new dialogue, names or models.
All generic Trainers are made (7 per type), 4 being monotype and 3 having other types
Wild Critters can only be found if they aren't strong vs the act type (you wont find aqua or terra critters in the blaze keep)

The binder can now be filtered by type where it'll collapse all the critters, skills and stickers relevant to that type.
Made buttons and UI a bit smaller so the binder looks neater and itll be possible to see Spot Effects for bottom spots in battle
Stopped the status effect popping up if it was blocked by Status Immunity

Demo Update v0.093: Choose Your Energy

I've been watching how people have been playing the game and something that's been coming up is the ability to pick the energy that the cards use.
Previously, with the game automatically picking the energy to use for cards, you could be unable to play all the cards you wanted, even if you had the energy at the start of the turn. And that kinda sucks.

So I've added a little system to choose which energy you want to use, and if you don't want to bother, it's a new option in the game options! Along with that, you can now skip the binder page turning animation and enable buttons in addition to the click+drag gestures for the binder/booster packs.

Another big change expands the decks you can make with a change to the hybrid Skill Cards. These cards require 2 elements of energy to use and generally have effects from both of the types but could only be used by 1 of those types of Critter. No longer! Hybrid Skill Cards can now be used by Critters of both types! Its an idea I've been thinking on for a while and I want to give it a try, it should give loads more options to play with.

Something that's also come up a few times is dragging a skill card onto a Critter seeming finnicky. So now the Skill Card snaps over the Critter to make it much clearer when its in the right place to play.

Hows the full game coming along?
For the full game, the main systems are almost done! You can master cards, unlock new characters, enter the Critter Championship and I've made 90 more Skill Cards to try out. Considering the demo has 100 Skill Cards, thats quite the boost! I hope they work out and allow for some great play styles.

Taste My Poison Moves!

Played around with the different critter types and critters until I found my favorite card. Poison setups are pretty strong when you have the right combination. Prinleaf is OP

Hey Fuzzforce, I am playing the demo for the game right now and I got stuck in an infinite loop here. I have Tweesk and two Chlorophryll on the board generating energy and am pumping out Nature Attack and Ram every other turn for all 3 actions but Prinleaf + 3 still manages to heal everything with Nurture and Healing Petals and the Ability it has for Heal 6 every 3 turns. I'm going back and forth healing my dudes and they're healing so it's just endless lol....

Card Loss

Is there any way you might adjust what happens when you lose to an NPC? I personally don't think we should lose our entire deck if we lose. Maybe make it to where we can get them back for free if we manage to beat them with our next life? Maybe they could just take one of our cards or they have to swap with us just like we'd have to swap with them when they win? Taking the entire deck seems a bit extreme since it doesn't work that way if we win. Edit: Just wanted to add that even though I am not a fan of...

Deck Building

Just played through the demo and it feels like you just get a deck and then are just going through the motions to get through the rest of the run. With the small deck size once you get 2 good creatures and a couple stickers you're basically done and are just trying to power through to the end....
