Finding & Playing Skulls Online matches
I wanted to collect some advice for players looking to play the realtime online mutliplayer mode, Skulls Online.

Tips:
Durgrobach created a good guide for playing online & hosting matches: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=158096884

Also when you search for a match, if you don't find one, use the "Keep Searching" button to search for a match in the background. You can play any other mode besides Skulls Online while doing this, and if the game is minimized/unfocused, you'll get a widnows tray notification when it does find a game.

Group:
ShadowDFX has made a group for people looking to find online players, called Skulls Online: http://steamcommunity.com/groups/SkullsOnline

Happy skull eating!

Now that we've got the sale going for the next 2 days, I encourage older players to come back & try Skulls Online, hopefully should be more populated.

(as a reminder there's always the async mode Skulls Anywhere if you can't find anybody).

That guide pretty much states that the player that moves first will have a pretty big advantage, and almost always win, and because of that people should self-impose a rule where they only move 2-3 units at the start? Is this true? Because screw that.
That makes me not even want to play online. If the only way to have a balanced match is to hope that both players follow some invisible rule, then that's absolute junk. And it's poor game design if it has to be that way.

There isn't really much of a first turn advantage in general, much like chess (while when starting to learn chess, I certainly thought there was an advantage to going first). While you often seem to be able to get resources first, that's offset by leaving yourself open to attack. Many perceived first-turn advantages be overturned by hanging back and waiting for the opponent to advance first, leaving them vulnerable.

There are a few minor instances with the potions(power up) spacing/randomization that may give players slight benefits in a few specific levels, and one spell (Oni) that gives you a slight advantage if you're the *last* player (esp in a four player match).
