Devs Address the VIRUS Issue and I'll buy your game again!
I need a bit more assurance from the devs than, "not virus".

If it's not a virus why is TVS, ESET, and Malware Bytes all popping on this file?

Just tell us if it's not a virus what is happening and if a fix is coming. That's literally all you have to do. Staying quiet on the issue and giving short answers is not the way to approach this. How is it so hard to do something to ensure your player base your game is safe?

It's a false positive. Happens alot with early access games. It will stop triggering once anti-virus software add an exception to there search protocol. Normally it's just a program pulling computer data like video card, cpu, etc that triggers the anti virus software.

This is the first time I've ever had it happen and I play a ton of indie and early access games. If it's that easy the devs need to address it publicly.

I have no doubt that it could be a false positive but the silence from the devs about it isn't a good look.

False positives are extremely common, especially in software that's under development. Just because you've never experienced it doesn't mean it doesn't happen. Have you ever been murdered? I guess by your logic murder doesn't happen either.

Wouldnt the fix be required to come from the antivirus software and not the devs?
Joshuawa Oct 17, 2023 @ 12:48am
Yea the anitvirus software would have to add a exception for the file to stop them from tagging it. Alot of AAA games send that stuff to the antivirus companys before releasing games but small game devs dont do that as they dont have the contacts. So what will happen is the antivirus companys will get pings showing new threat found and they will look to see what it is and what not then be like oh its just a game file and add it to exception list.

Completely aware false positives happen all the time. Yet I'm not going to let a dev pass on an issue if there's a possibility of it being malicious. That's just not good management by the devs themselves. I'm saying this is the first "indie game" I've had this happen with on steam.

if it's a false positive it was on the devs to submit their software to the AV database for certification and exception.

Sounds like a weak sauce anti virus software then. I sure as hell wouldn't trust it.

Also happens if the game is running denuvo or some ring 0 anti cheat or whatever.

I buy a ton of porn games who sometimes give a false positive
Problem is that some looser code systems just look that way because they aren't as "shored up" in "security" as others.

If you really legit fear the warning, my advice would be avoid multiplayer as that will def be where the opening will be most manipulable.
Though personally I'm just glad to buy the game and be part of the group funding its development. I'll save words of hate for if abandoned.
