True. I learned after AC3 that they had cutted almost everything out from the EU release. I really hope they would make translated HD version from the japanese version game someday...
As far as the in-game experience goes. Gameplay and in-mission story, my favourite is Ace Combat 6 by far.
The huge engagements over multiple fronts, the numerous friendly units that remain your allies throughout the game and actually become familar, being able to use High-G by holding both triggers, the effectiveness of your wingman and allied assault...
Love it all, and the huge dogfight on Weapons of Mass Destruction remains my highlight of the whole series, especially when the friendly squadrons of Wind Hover, Avalanche and Sky Kid show up to turn the tide, all while Fires of Liberation starts blaring through the speakers.
In terms of the cutscenes though, that was all rather sub-par and most of the cutscene voice acting was poor.
I appreciate what they tried to do, telling different concurent stories, but it fell short on delivery. Too many characters, so not enough development.
Otherwise, as the complete package, I would probably say AC04 or Zero.
Shocking I know, but I agree that AC5 had some iffy scripting/voice acting and, honestly, I got a bit annoyed by how whiny my squadron mates were.
Also, I actually hated the way you couldn't select different SP weapons for each aircraft and there were no return lines.
Overall, I would probably say Zero. Loved all the enemy ace squadrons and then their interviews.
When you think about it, Cipher was probably the greatest ace that Strangereal ever saw.
Not only did he take on and beat the best that the Belkan Air Force had, he also did it all in a 'lowly' F-15C (vs Mobius 1's F-22) and a single wingman (vs Blaze's 3).
He also used that F-15C to take on, and beat, Solo-Wing Pixy in the Morgan, a fighter far superior to Yellow 13's Su-37.
And the sound track. Oh the sound track.
One on one with Pixy, the V-2 launching in the background and "Zero" playing.
For those of you who don't know: the reason the rest of the world got a scaled-down version of Ace Combat 3 was because the Japanese players hated the Japanese version. They preferred AC2, where it was less about story and more about action. So that's the version we got: less story, more action. It's a case of the Japanese hate their version, so Namco gave us a different version, and we hate it and we want the Japanese version, but the Japanese want our version. Very peculiar. xD
I can only hope that Fires of Liberation will get a PC port in the future.
I never got chance to play AC4
lol, someday i going to play all the AC games again, and the AC4 is one of them.
"Target destroyed! There he is! We have Mobius 1 on radar!"
and
Ace Combat 6 on the Xbox 360.
but i LOVED the final box battle (well second last mission) of AC4
