Wreckfest really bad fps with Rx 6400
Hello!

I have a pc that is enough to run this game on ultra, but I have an AMD graphics card, specifically the RX 6400. In theory, the game should exceed 60 FPS.

For some reason the game is not using CPU but GPU 100% but still the game is horrible. When all the cars are present on the screen the game runs at 10 FPS!, when there are not so many cars on the screen the game runs at 40 fps, but everything is momentary, the game stays between 10 - 40 fps super unstable, rarely reaches 60. Unplayable in a nutshell.

I already tried to put the game to work with the RX6400, but nothing happens.
I have played much more demanding games than this at maximum quality and they go to 60+. I don't understand what happens.

Any solution?

If you're playing off a second drive, make sure it's new. Older drives cause bad lag.

Hmm, I still using a Western Digital hard drive from when I built my current gaming computer back in 2018. I7 8700, 1060 6gb video card

Tracks do load slower on a Western Digital hard drive than a SSD drive. But once you into the race, be it offline or online, I don't think your hard drive would be causing any lag?

I not seeing it. Online, if I seeing lag, it usually because I have high PING, like 120 PING when going to Poop east server.

I always try to have the drivers updated, I don't know if that's the problem. I have seen people saying that there are drivers that make the game go badly, other older drivers that are recommended to play Wreckfest.

So far I can't find any solution

Make sure to disable the following settings for a better experience with an AMD card.

- Grass
- SSAO
- Shadows

Settings those three to disabled will give to a significant FPS boost on an AMD card when playing this game. I have to do with with an RX 6800 XT, so I can imagine the hit it takes to a 6400. Nvidia definitely runs the game better that's for sure.

I put the game in the worst possible quality, for some reason it feels worse than when I put it in Ultra, I don't understand what happens.

Same problem. I changed my 1060 GTX 6GB (got 50-60 fps on ultra) to 6600RX and in same settings I have 13-30 fps, 45 on minimal settings

Games running slower on low settings means the lower settings use CPU instead of GPU. When having a relatively slow CPU and fast GPU, games will run faster on higher settings.

What makes you think that? It's not a high end card at all. And it means nothing if you don't also state the specs of your other pc parts. If you only upgraded the gpu in a system thats years old, you will not get the full performance of the gpu.

Since you stated the game runs worse on lower settings: what cpu do you use? It's probably too slow.

For comparison: a gtx 3070 is 314% faster. Which is an OLDER card :p

RX 6400 + i5 10400F + 16 DDR4 3200MHz

Have I already told you that I have played games much more demanding than Wreckfest itself at maximum quality?
Other than that; I'm not the only one having this problem, I've seen people even with AMD 7000 series GPUs and the game runs horrible for them.

The problem is not my computer, as I said before, it must be running the game to spare, something is wrong with the game and the AMD GPUs, since for some reason I have not seen any of these cases with people using Nvidia GPUs . I always look at the specs before buying a game, I'm no fool.

Well you answered your own question.

"something is wrong with the game and the AMD GPUs"

only option is to wait for a driver update or a game update or both

My previous pc had a 10 year old i7 and a amd r9 270, and could run this game at max settings, so you're right, something is very very wrong :p

Have you checked the performance metrics in radeon software while running the game? You might spot a problem there like high temps/ low power draw/ low clockspeed.
GrumpyGinger May 21, 2023 @ 3:18pm
I did a google search about your card, and see lots of people having problems when installing it in a pcie 2 or 3 slot. 3 is managable but still a bottleneck, 2 will choke the card. pcie 2 systems got sold as gaming rigs until around 2013, pcie 3 systems until around 2016.

So check what motherboard you have and if the slots are pcie 4. If they aren't, your motherboard may be the bottleneck.
