I personally haven't had a problem of finding the last car or two in the derby as they haven't gotten stuck on mine. Typically they seem to just force themselves into the wall and kill themselves because the AI knows they're stuck so essentially they suicide. Perhaps I've been lucky though *shrug*
I think the handling is actually very good. Have you tried both cars? I personally drive the more American muscle car and it truly feels like a 60's muslce car. The thing is heavy as hell and truly feels like it. I think you have to take into perspective that you're traveling above 100kph and that guy slamming into the back of you is going to make you roll and lose control, not to mention the damage. Try steering into someone right as they're about to make contact with you - counter-steering into them to not allow them to shove you around. Good luck!
I completely agree about finding the last few cars. Sometimes it's hard to find them, or even get to them. I've been thinking maybe a map should be implemented. Maybe if you hold Tab on the keyboard, or hold Back on a controller it would have a fullscreen map marking the cars. Perhaps red or black spots for dead cards, white or blue for living, something along those lines.
I think the handling is quite good. You just need to make sure you have your car set up right. Give it the correct tires, and don't assume higher horse power is always better. Try both cars with both engines and you might notice it get easier for you.
It's still very much a work in progress though and we agree it could be a lot more fun still.
Im not sure if i would like that. I loved to play with my opponents, even when it takes a long time until the match is over...
Just pull out your ps1, get rid of the dust and put in destruction derby...then you know how to implement it
I remind that in other DD based games you could win even when you wasnt the last. Just because you had more "kills" as the one which lived as last...
But please, not a timer
Specifically on the handling during races: personally I'm waiting for a slower steering rack on the cars - in other words a steering sensitivity option. Both cars are a little too twitchy for my tastes (especially the Euro car on gravel, that's almost undrivable!) but I feel it will become much, much better when we are able to reduce the steering input to make it less sensitive. I'm happy to wait until full control options like this are implemented, the game is still fun to play in the meantime even if it is tricky to handle.
And, to the devs. I think a point system is the best way to go, so even if you arent the last person alive (if you ramed enough people) you can still win, and if you are still last, there is a possibility that you will be in 13th because you didnt hit anyone. When you add a timer it becomes more of a game of luck (Am I going to have enough time to hit this guy?) instead of a game of skill (holding back on this guy so I can get him easer later on). Flatout had both of these and I didnt like the timer as much as the point system.
Just my opinion. :)
As for the contact timer, sometimes it takes me a while to hit cars and I am trying. You will always have people who find the loop holes in games but you can't nerf it cause it'll harm the people who play correctly.
And, since it is a "last man standing" type of demo derby, awarding extra points for whoever was the last would encourage tactical fighting.
