There's something wrong with your game. The Supervan is B class by default when unlocked, and both can change engines in the upgrade menu and can be tuned as well.

I checked the integrity of the files, removed all the mods, and replayed the mission to unlock the linker. Now I can change the engine, and everything's fine. Thank you for your reply, which gave me another perspective on the problem ;)

I think it was a mod that caused the problem. This should have been reported to users by the mod's creator.
