i get this error everytime i try to start my game ill get to the menu with the quit and play and then if i click play it instantly errors i just paided for this please help

Please do the following -
Verify your files
Restart steam
Start the game.

If that does not work try verifying again.
if it still doesn't work let us know and we will continue troubleshooting.

i did this and I'm still getting the same problem

+1 same error, verify did not find anything so I uninstalled and re-installed but still have the same error.

Fixed it, the save folder was set to hidden for some reason.

OP check the doc\my games \ wreckfest folder is not set to hidden, no idea why it would be but mine was (It was fine 2 days ago)

I realised that if you delete the folder named "Wreckfest", it gets created again when I try and boot the game, however then there's immediately the mentioned error message again.

Read though some old forums on this, could it be that the game is mistakingly trying to write to a file "save/settings.conf" trhat simply doesn't exist? How the hell do I get the game to write to one that does exist then? And why should I even have to bother...?

unstalled the game - and installed it again , it 2 times , the same thing ??

I just asked for a refund just now, already spent 2 hours with trying to get the game going, reinstalling, researching solutions.... just not worth it.

This error trigger by something stopping Wreckfest from making the new save folder here:

C:\Users\YOUR USER NAME\Documents\My Games\wreckfest\7656119833977****

Like a permission issue with the \Documents folder or anti virus. Some have had success moving \Documents folder to another hard drive. You will see a shortcut to the \Documents folder in Windows Explorer, if right click Properties, click and go Location Tab, can move folder.

Some have had to make a new Windows user account and run Wreckfest from there to get WF to start.
