Wired Xbox 360 Controller causes game to stutter
Really weird. Play this game on Ultra settings with no problem using my keyboard. Decided to get my USB wired Xbox 360 controller and during the races every 20-30 seconds the game will stutter and lock up for about 2-3 seconds before resuming. Any ideas why this may be happening?

Using a wireless controller?

Def. controller related. I use same car/same track etc. Start game with controller = stutter. Close it out, start again with controller = stutter.

Close it out, start again with NO controller = smooth. Every time.

Not sure if related to Steam's big picture, the game itself, or some other bug.

A lot players use a controller with Wreckfest, Can't say I have seen any posts that a controller was causing stuttering.

Ensured all drivers for controller, graphics card, OS, etc are up to date. Tried multiple USB ports.
Same issues; game stutters using controller, smooth when using keyboard.

Playing with a few Big Picture settings to see if that has anything to do with it. Hopefully I'm not the only one with this issue :(

I use a wired Xbox controller as well. I get stuttering when there's a crapload of cars in the screen, like when a race starts with 20+ cars and they all jam up in the first turn. I just attribute that to my aging slow PC and hold back a bit until the screen clears out (of cars). Then it works fine. I'm not buying a new PC just for Wreckfest, but I AM awaiting the release to PS4.

SOLVED! Tweaked a couple controller settings in Big Picture mode and that did nothing.

Went to game properties and disabled:
1) Steam Overlay
2) "Use desktop game theater while steamVR is active

Game runs butter-smooth with the controller plugged in now :)

Have you tried using keyboard to see if it runs smooth vs using the controller? Do a quick figure 8 race.

Try to turn rumble off

With steam overlay and VR turned off, I can run the game using the controller with Rumble on. But would be interested to hear if it helps Duke Slade or if he notices any improvement using a keyboard (must have controller unplugged before starting game)

Well did you actually try the solutions posted?

I have a wireless Xbox One controller and I was getting spikes of frame drop and lag, turning force feedback all the way off fixed the issue for me.
