GTX 1070, with old drivers or brand new drivers, same result. Too many complaints floating around to try and lay this on drivers, though.
The only thing you can do is to verify the files and if that fails, re-install from the beginning. I had a similar case and veryfing files did nothing. I had to re-install the whole game. And if it happened suddenly, you need to remember if it was after a patch or not. Maybe the last patch is the cause.
Yeah, I don't play this all that often, tho I love the game. I just get the itch every couple months and go on a bender. This time I got ♥♥♥♥-blocked and thought it was worth mentioning.

Dude, you really have a BIG problem :p you keep reminding me why i have you blocked :s
No. Specs have nothing to do with crashes. Unless of course that your videocard is dying or whatever. A specific component is not going to make your game crash, specially when the op said the game was working perfectly fine until recently.
But yeah, asking for specs all the time looks very "professional" hahahaha.
Try making one between 50 - 100% size of your computer ram if you have 8 - 16 gb ram, otherwise keep it too that size only.
With my pc i got 16 gb ram so i got mine set on a mechanical 2 tb hdd between 12 - 18 gb even though i got 16 gb ram.
For some reason having several smaller ones the game is very prone too crashing out of nowhere.
I never had my own "doubtful pleasure" with this dude, but by just reading his comments on the Wreckfest-subforum and they way he treats everybody by patronizing and insulting other people as soon as something is way behind his knowledge. (which unfortunately is a lot), Ill highly recommend to avoid this guy.
@OP Something has changed, no matter if hardware/software wise, thats why your PC crashes. Its up to you, to provide enough info for other users, to get the help you need.
And insulting other people who are willing to help you, isnt going to get you anywhere. ;)
Good luck.
Edit: Or maybe not, seems pretty inconsistent

If want do a true fresh install of Wreckfest, need go to Wreckfest install folder after doing the uninstall and delete any left over files. Use Steam to open a Window Explorer window of WF installer folder, before you do the uninstall.

I'll give 32-bit a try.
I know it's not RAM, I'm rocking 32 GB. Harry Nipples just got a semi reading that.
I can report no further crashes after running in 32-bit, so that's a fix as far as I'm concerned. I see no performance/appearance differences at all.
